On September 22, the Bahiana, through GPESCA, in partnership with ABAMPS, provided a meeting involving health professionals and undergraduates with children and adolescents with mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) from Salvador and the interior of Bahia. The action, managed by nursing students, included educational activities, medical and dental care, consultation with a nutritionist and a psychologist. The objective of the event, which took place at Campus Cabula, was to directly benefit the population with MPS, add knowledge and sensitize the academic population in Health to the comprehensive and humanized care of families living in the context of a rare disease such as mucopolysaccharidosis.

The MPS

MPS is a rare, chronic and progressive genetic disease, caused by an enzyme deficiency that blocks the degradation of mucopolysaccharides, causing them to accumulate in cells, generating several serious disorders to the body. As it is a progressive and rare disease, early diagnosis is essential and treatment and care in general are hampered by the lack of information on the part of health professionals and the general population.
