Insertion of more humane activities in the health area and collaboration with a socio-environmental cause - these were the purposes of the Experiences Course in Integrative and Complementary Practices in Health, promoted by Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, on September 15, at Campus Cabula. The event was created by the Center for Integrative and Complementary Practices in Health (CEPIS), in partnership with the Germinar Program. Participants took classes in Chinese body practices, integrative community therapy, meditation and yoga.

Professor and biomedic Renata Roseghini, who led the activities, explains what Integrative and Complementary Practices in Health (PICS) are and the importance of understanding this theme. “PICS are exercises that work the energy balance of the body and mind and provide an aid in curing illnesses. The purpose of the course was to enable the general public to experience the PICS, so that they can understand how these practices can be introduced in the Unified Health System (SUS). The amount collected from the course will be donated to the Germinar program, which has a social and environmental function”.

In addition to the course, the event featured a composting workshop, thrift store, organic food sales and storytelling. These actions were carried out by the Germinar Program, a project that trains facilitators for groups focused on socio-environmental sustainability.

Silvio De Felippes, a Germinar employee, expresses how this social initiative is constituted: “Our program aims to train people who can take better care of the world. This project emerged more than 40 years ago, through companies that promoted educational activities for young people and employees. From that point on, the project developed and, over time, became Germinar. We seek to help all types of communities. Today the Bahiana gave this space so that we could generate resources for our program and continue promoting our social work”.

The course was attended by several students and health professionals. The biomedical and former student of the Bahiana, Luisa Vieira, tells about the experience of participating in this moment: “The course was excellent. We work with Chinese body practices, which aim to restore the body's energy. And it was very good, we need it on a daily basis and, many times, we don't notice our own body. This event was wonderful, as it brought to the academic world the issue of PICS, which has the purpose of working with our energy and healing capacity. I'm passionate about integrative practices”.
