The Strategic Management of People and Learning of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública (GEPAP) promoted the lecture “Do you take good care of your money?” on August 29th, September 4th and 5th. The event was open to employees and students of the institution, taking place on the campuses of Brotas and Kabula. BRX Invest's independent investment advisors, Yago Barbosa Santana and Matheus Rodrigues de Miranda Queiroz, were invited to discuss the topic.

Since 2013 the Bahiana invests in actions in favor of financial education, being the GEPAP responsible for implementing these initiatives. As explained by Itana Rocha (GEPAP), it was noticed that employees had a high level of indebtedness, which resulted in them taking loans and other similar resources, making this a difficult cycle. Given this scenario, the financial education program was an alternative to improve these rates.

“We had the idea of guiding employees in a personalized way and, later, promoting lectures”, adds Itana. Following this scope, this year, the big news was the content focused on investment. Thus, the invited speakers explained the subjects in a very accessible way, since the field is little known to most people.

The points elucidated in the lecture were: the role of the investment advisor, National Financial System (FSN), basic concepts (inflation, Selic, indicators etc.), functioning of the financial and capital markets, types of investments and the importance of financial education .

Yago Barbosa Santana ponders the relevance of financial planning: “it is important for you to have a better quality of life or for the time to come when you can stop working and make money work for you. Financial health means being able to travel, change car or house without acquiring debt, all these attitudes involve good financial planning”, he concludes.

Yago explored the different types of investments based on the investor's profile, be it conservative, moderate or aggressive. He also highlighted that the advisor's role is to define which investment is best suited for each person. For example, for a person who has a conservative profile, currently, a private pension, fixed income or government bonds would be indicated. For someone with a moderate profile, there are multimarket funds, real estate funds and funds that have a little investment in stocks. More aggressive people can invest directly in stocks, equity funds, foreign funds.

So, according to the independent advisor, for each investor profile there is a type of investment, taking into account that today there are more than 70 types of investments in the market. Therefore, it is essential to know this sector well so that it is possible to achieve financial freedom through the most assertive decisions possible.

That's what Luis Alberto, accounts receivable assistant, sought when participating in the event. He reports having been very interested in the topics raised, as he intends to invest soon, and said that the lecture helped him to clarify several doubts about investment.
