A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública innovates, once again, and launches, on August 9, the Center for Evidence-Based Medicine. A special program held at Campus Cabula brought together researchers, professors, students and health professionals to discuss the medical scenario regarding evidence-based decisions. On the occasion, the scientific publication was also launched Journal of Evidence-Based Healthcare, which integrates the list of scientific journals of the institution. Present were the rector of the Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, the Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Education, Maria de Lourdes Freitas Gomes and, of Extension, Caroliza Pedroza, in addition to the vice-president of the Regional Council of Medicine – Cremeb, Júlio Braga.

"This is a historic moment for all of us, as it marks the permanent growth of our institution, which this year turns 66. It is a story that emerges linked to what we have been developing along our own trajectory. here also the launch of Journal of Evidence-Based Healthcare, which is already born brilliantly among our journals", declared Dr. Maria Luisa.

According to the coordinator of the MBE Center, prof. Luis Cáudio Correia, the Center aims to promote scientific thinking in clinical reasoning. "We also aim to 'literate' society in relation to scientific thinking. We cannot stay just between us, health professionals, discussing evidence-based medicine. We have to make our clients, society in general, understand which is a science-based decision so that this dialogue of a shared decision is made between doctor and patient."

The guest speaker prof. Lucas Heal, from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), presented an analysis of current scientific production, from the point of view of researcher Doug Altman, author of the article "The Medical Research Scandal". The second speech was also by the guest prof. José Augusto Barreto Filho, from the Federal University of Sergipe (UFSE), who pointed out a misalignment between research and scientific discoveries and the product that actually reaches society. Another point he questioned was about the concept of "scientific literacy". "If we researchers are in the literacy process, how are we going to make society literate? I think Evidence-Based Medicine is working, but it is still under construction".

The neuroscientist and professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) Felipe Reis, highlighted the work of change of conduct, under the perspective of neuroscience and, finally, the special guest, Dr. Madalena Patrício, from the Center for Medical Studies Based on Evidence from Portugal and president of the Best Evidence Medical Education Board (BEME), she addressed the theme "Evidence-Based Medical Education".
