Through a proposal to disseminate the culture of entrepreneurship and innovation in the health area in Bahia, the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública organizes the seminar “The Law of Biodiversity”. The event will take place on September 4, at Campus Cabula, is free, open to the external public and focuses on understanding how the new legal framework for biodiversity in force in the country works and the impacts of Research and Development (R&D) activities within this scope. The speaker will be Aline Morais, from the Technological Management Coordination at Fiocruz-RJ. Places are limited and participants can register at the Registration Center at Bahiana.

The program will feature a lecture on the new regulatory framework and the need to register research, described in Law 13.123/2015, which involve access to the country's genetic heritage sample, and also a workshop to clarify doubts about the registration of research in the National System for the Management of Genetic Heritage and Associated Traditional Knowledge (SisGen).

The participation, in the seminar, of professors and researchers of the Bahiana that carry out research in this area from 2000 to the current year is essential, due to the need to register on the SisGen digital platform by November 5, 2018, under the risk of fines imposed by the Ministry of the Environment (MMA) on the researcher and the institution education.

Biodiversity Legal Framework

The Law covers all experimental or theoretical research carried out on Brazilian biodiversity (including epidemiological, ecological, taxonomic and phylogenetic studies, as well as the use of genetic information deposited in public databases - GenBank), as well as research involving inter-institutional partnerships with sample shipping/shipping.
