Another achievement in a sea of challenges. That was the victory of Paralympic athlete Renê Pereira, a former student of the Medicine course at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública and also sponsored by the institution, which achieved the position of 4th best in the world in Remo Adaptado. Renê won this award at the World Rowing Cup II event, which took place from June 21st to 24th, in Austria.

In an interview, Renê talks about the support of Bahiana to sport and what this achievement means for your career.

What are the main Adapted Rowing events?

Renê Pereira - We normally have two big events every year, which are: the World Cup and the World Cup. The World Cup was that event that took place in Austria, in Linz, and the World Cup will take place in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, in September.

How do you consider this result of having placed fourth in the Adapted Rowing World Cup?

Renê Pereira - So, it really was a very good result. I've been evolving since the Olympics. At the Olympics, I was sixth; at last year's World Cup, in the United States, I was fifth and now, at the World Cup, I've finished fourth, behind Ukraine, Russia and England, which are very traditional countries in this sporting category.

How important is the support of the Bahiana for you to win that position at the World Cup?

Renê Pereira - The support of Bahiana is of paramount importance, because it made possible the acquisition of the container – my training place – where I already intend to be installed in a few days or weeks, as soon as I have the formal license from the State.

Now that the World Cup is over, what is your goal as an athlete for the rest of the year?

Renê Pereira - My goal this year is to remain in the top six, with the aim of reaching the Olympics, which selects the top ten in the category.
