Not even the rain was able to cool the anticipatory climate of Novos da Bahiana – students approved in the 2010.2 Training Selection Process – who participated in the Freshmen Reception, held by the Psicopedagógica Care Nucleus (NAPP) at the Cabula Academic Unit, on Friday morning (09/07).

The beginning of the program had a brief presentation by each undergraduate course coordinator. Prof. Geraldo Argolo, coordinator of Biomedicine, highlighted that the course of Bahiana it offers its own infrastructure with equipment and a complete Clinical Analysis laboratory, a broad field of work for the biomedic. The second coordinator to introduce herself was prof. Maria de Lourdes Gomes, from the Nursing course. She spoke of the intense practical performance of students who, right at the beginning of the course, have contact with patients, performing supervised practical activities.

With great sympathy, the coordinator of the Physiotherapy course, profa. Roseny Ferreira, spoke to future physiotherapists about the possibilities of conducting academic research and presented the residency in Physiotherapy as a great differential in the course of Bahiana.

The Psychology Service was the motto of the presentation by the course coordinator, Profa. Monica Daltro. In her presentation, she made it clear that Psychology is extremely valued in Bahiana and that, at all degrees, students will deal with at least one subject in the course.

The residence and the Teaching-Care Clinic of Bahiana (Cabula) – Dental Health Unit were some of the differences presented by Professor Urbino Tunes, coordinator of the Dentistry course. Another strong point presented by him was the internship held at Hospital Roberto Santos. The initiative is unique for Dentistry courses in Bahia and extremely rare throughout the country.

After a speech by Professor Urbino Tunes, the coordinator of the Occupational Therapy course, Ana Joaquina Mariani Passos presented the course and the Occupational Therapy Service that is offered at the Teaching-Care Clinic of the BahianaOn Brotas, in which students participate in supervised internships, assisting and accompanying patients. She made herself available to theNew from Bahiana from other courses can look for it in order to know more about the occupational therapist's profession and what place he occupies today in the labor market.

Finally, Dr. Maria Luísa Soliani, director of Bahiana, presented the Medicine course, representing the coordinator Dr. Marta Menezes, who is on a study trip. In addition to talking about the structure of the course, the director also spoke a little about the School's history, its main values and the concern of the Bahiana in training people for the contemporary world, not just professionals. The People Development coordinator at the Bahiana, Luiza Ribeiro, the coordinator of NAPP, Maria Angélica de Abreu, the coordinator of Postgraduate Studies, Research and Extension, Dr. Kátia Sá, in addition to the secretaries and pedagogical supervisors of the Academic Units of the Bahiana.

The schedule continued with the presentation of the video "What the Bahiana have. what the Bahiana would you like. what the Bahiana e do” which shows, among other things, the mission, vision, values and main objectives, services and achievements of the institution.

Then, the students were separated into groups and took a tour of the 'Ecological Quarter of Bahiana' – Cabula Academic Unit. They were able to visit the classrooms, laboratories, administrative units and the Teaching-Care Outpatient Clinic of the Bahiana – Dental Health Unit.

During the course, the New from Bahiana produced images that were used in a presentation held later in the auditorium, with the aim of illustrating what the Bahiana meant in their personal trajectories and how they would be part of their history.

In addition to the activities carried out on Friday morning, another point that left the New from Bahiana Enthusiastic was the model of the Selective Formative Process, first in Brazil and which proposes a reflective moment with the realization of experiential activities and also an evaluation composed of tests drawn up from thematic axes.

"The selection process of the Bahiana already has a willingness to want to innovate. It's a different project. The expectation for the next six years is very high”, declares Bruno Cobas, a freshman in Medicine.

For the ex-journalist and current freshman in Nursing, Ana Cristina Ribeiro, the change of area was due to the intense coexistence with health, on behalf of her family. She says that she was already studying Nursing in Recife and, with her husband's transfer to Salvador, she had to take a new entrance exam. There was no other. It was approved in the Bahiana and today is another Nova at home. Ana Cristina says that what impressed her most was the fact that the Nursing course presented practical activities right from the start. “There, in Recife, we started with a little practice only from the 4th semester on”.

André Barcelos, freshman in Medicine, says that the Training Selection Process “was a change for the better. It was considered a content more aimed at those who will enter the Bahiana and also more related to what we are going to work on in the coming years”. He says that he felt welcomed by the Bahiana, “expectations are the best and with what happened here, I realize that the Bahiana it's more family, it's like a school, you don't feel left out. I also feel that you are more connected with the guys. You also feel the presence and participation of the committee (teachers)”.

Be welcome!
