Bahiana for a day | Dom Bosco Salesian College

The last edition of the first semester of 2018 of the program Bahiana for one day it took place on June 20 and was attended by students from the Salesian College Dom Bosco. The program was divided into two groups and by area of ​​knowledge, in order to provide high school students with better professional guidance and greater contact with the academic environment of the Bahiana, in addition to presenting the institution's infrastructure.

The visitation itineraries covered activities related to courses in Medicine, Physiotherapy, Dentistry, Physical Education, Nursing, Psychology and Biomedicine. The action started at 14 pm and ended at 17 pm.

Under the guidance of Professor Suzana Araújo, the monitors from the morphofunctional science group presented, in the morphofunctional laboratory, the curricular components classified into four stations: musculoskeletal system, genitourinary and digestive system, neuroendocrine system and cardiorespiratory system. To do so, the high school students were subdivided into small teams, taking turns.     

In Room S02, Pav. III, the Experimentation in Electrotherapy activity took place. Those responsible for this stage were the professor of the Physiotherapy course Sandra Porciúncula and the student Maria Tourinho, president of the Academic League of Neurodynamics. Members of the academic league Laforte also helped the visitors. “Often, when we are at school, we have a very superficial notion of the areas. Therefore, these activities end up bringing students closer to the courses of interest, increasing the contact they have with people who already work and/or study in the area and who can respond more specifically to existing questions”, declared Maria Tourinho.

In Dentistry, the supervisor and administrator of the Dental Center, Lísia Oliveira, presented the Dental Center of Bahiana, the structure of the place and the forms of service. In the Laboratory of Study of Movement/Skills in Physical Education, the laboratory routine in sports science was explained by professor and coordinator Clárcson Plácido.

Placido pointed out that the Bahiana for one day represents an opportunity to bring students who are in high school closer to our experiences in the formation processes of undergraduate courses: "This makes them have a very objective perception of how we develop teaching, research and extension and what they will find here about opportunities to expand this range of knowledge to the labor market. It is a “unique” moment, as the program is aimed at young people who are still in the choice stage and with several doubts. It is an opportunity for them to move in this scenario and, in fact, have greater assimilation of the field they intend to enter”, he summed up.  

In the nursing laboratory, students were able to learn and participate in practices involving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), with the professor of the course Ronesca Santana Dias. To present the Psychology course, professor and coordinator Sylvia Barreto mediated the Myths and Truths about Psychology activity. Activities related to Biomedicine were applied in the microscopy laboratory, with Professor Adalardo Carneiro.

During the program, the students of the third year of high school at Colégio Salesiano Dom Bosco were participative and were very interested. Student Leticia Menezes, 16, described the experience as “incredible”, adding that there were courses that she “had not even considered before, such as Physiotherapy and Nursing”, but that she started to see them with different eyes from then on. Alice Oliveira, 17, rated the opportunity to learn about the infrastructure of the Bahiana, in addition to having the possibility to ask questions about the most varied courses”. Lorena Dória, 17, praised the school: “the Bahiana it has an excellent structure, organized spaces and well-equipped laboratories. The activities were very playful and everyone involved was very dedicated to explaining the courses”.
