The young apprentices of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública promoted, last Friday (08), on Campus Cabula, the Fair for Conscious Consumption. The event was held with donations received from employees and students of the Bahiana. Shoes, clothes, books, toys, and various accessories were sold, and the proceeds from the sales will be donated to charities.

The creator of the fair, the young apprentice Monalisa Oliveira, spoke about the process of building this social project. “The idea of the Conscious Consumption Fair started when Luiza Ribeiro, People Development coordinator, introduced us to Bahiana Verde, which is a project by Bahiana focused on sustainability. So, I presented the idea to her and, at the same time, she showed it to the group of managers, and we started working. We brought the fair to June, because that week, on June 5, World Environment Day is celebrated. And then we worked to make it happen on this date (08), here in Cabula, and June 12, in Brotas".

Regarding the institutions to be benefited, Monalisa Oliveira explains that those with less publicity were chosen: "We looked for smaller institutions and cases that are not as publicized." The young apprentice also reported that donations will not be made in cash: “We chose to buy what each institution most needs. What do you need in that institution? Milk? So, we are going to take all the money we raised and buy the milk and make all the donation in milk. Or else, share: school supplies, milk, food, whatever you need”.

Thaisa Guedes, one of the young apprentices who were on the event's organizing committee, told how the act of managing this social fair had an impact on her professional and personal life. "What I think is important is that we can be aware of helping others, asking our neighbors and friends to raise money and, thus, we can pass it on, making a fair, with a more affordable value, and get the money raised to help other institutions in need. It's a great experience... When we enter the job market and have the opportunity to also start to see things differently and help people, there is a huge experience in our life that will add to our values", she said.

The Conscious Consumption Fair was attended by many employees of Bahiana. Fátima Cavalcante, Cup service employee, spoke about her experience participating in the event. “I really liked it, there are cheap things. It's great, I loved everything, everything is awesome. I would participate several times if I had”, he reported.

Regarding the possibility of other editions of the event, Monalisa Oliveira stated: “As everyone liked the idea I brought and as there was help from my colleagues, carrying out the project has been great. The demand is so great that there will be another fair soon, because there is still a lot to come for donation and there is a lot that is already saved for the next editions”.
