A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública was highlighted at the 15th European Congress on Contraception and Reproductive Health, a biannual event that, this year, took place between May 9th and 12th, in Budapest, Hungary. The institution was brilliantly represented by professors and students from the Medicine course, who presented their productions on May 10th.

The dissertation publications refer to the master's projects by professor Renata Dantas, “Relationship of Digital Bleeding and Positioning of the Medicated IUD”, and the doctoral projects, by professor Andrea Vilas Boas, “The Use of Contraceptive Implants in Patients with Sickle Cell Anemia”. Both were supervised by Professor Milena Brito and co-authored by undergraduate students, Maiara Rabelo, Venandra Andrade and Carolina Matos.

The meeting has a high scientific level and is an opportunity to establish partnerships, therefore, “the presentation of research developed by undergraduate and graduate students of the Bahiana, at this congress, represents, for the institution, greater visibility at national and international level. For the students, it is an incentive, an acknowledgment of all the hard work they have had and the certainty that they are doing a good job here”. Professor Milena reported, highlighting that the Bahiana it was the only faculty in the North/Northeast to present scientific work at the congress, alongside the Brazilian universities UNICAMP, USP and UNIFESP.

According to teacher Andrea Vilas Boas, who said she was very honored with the opportunity, “to participate in an event of this magnitude, taking a work with Bahian DNA and Bahiana, fills us with pride and shows us how much we are capable of producing quality science. We work with intelligent and scientifically relevant proposals. We have high quality human material and I'm sure we can go a long way. I came back inspired and even more willing to continue on this path”, she concluded.

Carolina Matos, one of the co-authors of the productions, explained that “being part of the 15th European Congress on Contraception and Reproductive Health as a co-author of a paper was a great experience, both as a medical student and as a future professional. There were many gains during the production of the work, in the sense of acquiring greater knowledge about the subject and of having the opportunity to put theoretical research knowledge into practice”. The academic also highlighted the relevance for the university: “seeing work done at the School Bahiana of Medicine reaching such proportion and prominence makes me immensely happy, I hope to be in more events of this size”.
