Paralympic athlete supported by Bahiana win the South American rowing championship

Renê Campos, athlete of the Brazilian Rowing Team, is also a former student of Bahiana.

Athlete Renê Campos Pereira, former medical student at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública and sponsored by the institution, it won the bi-championship of South American Adapted Rowing in a competition that took place in Valparaíso, Chile, on April 21st and 22nd.

Renê, who is an athlete on the Brazilian Rowing Team, in the PR1 category, spoke about the importance of participating in an international competition and how the Bahiana has supported him on his current journey: “I, who am a three-time Brazilian champion and the last athlete to participate in the Rio 2016 Paralympics, feel very happy, obviously, for having had this achievement. This ends up creating a motivation for us to follow the calendar of the year. I, who this year I'm having support from the School Bahiana of Medicine, which has been contributing to the formation of a training center, which is well advanced”, says the athlete.


Renê Pereira had just graduated in Medicine and was doing residency in Orthopedics, when he became paraplegic, after a bacterium reached his spinal cord. After struggling to move his legs through physical therapy, the athlete began to practice rowing and compete professionally. Today, he has several achievements in national and international competitions and works to build a Rowing Training Center in Lagoa do Abaeté, in Salvador.

The athlete will also participate in the World Cup, in June this year, which will take place in Serbia and Austria. About the sponsorship of Bahiana, Renê emphasizes: “I feel happy to be supported by an institution that trained me”.
