13/05 - 9th JOBA breaks records

Share

This year, the Dental Journey of Bahiana which took place from May 13th to 15th at the Cabula Academic Unit, brought a lot of news. The first of them was the holding of the 1st Periodontics Meeting of Bahia, an initiative of the Bahiana and the Bahia Academic League for the Study of Periodontics and Implantology – LABEDI. Another novelty that the ninth edition of the event celebrates is the number of participants and works registered. More than 500 people, including students, professionals and researchers, signed up to participate in the 9th Joba activities, which received more than 200 works.

“These works will be published in the annals of the Revista Baiana de Odontologia. The works sent to the 1st Periodontics Meeting of Bahia will be published in the annals of the Periodontics Journals of the Brazilian Society of Periodontology”, celebrates the coordinator of the Conference and Dentistry professor at Bahiana, Sandro Bittencourt.

JOB
In addition to courses, conferences, workshops, symposia and book launches, the 9th Joba brought guest speakers with important professional support to teach some of the activities, such as professor André Reis, from Guarulhos University, who taught the course “Adhesive Dentistry: Esthetics and Science"; Professor Glécio Vaz de Campos of the São Paulo Association of Dental Surgeons, also with the course “Peri-implant and Periodontal Plastic Microsurgery”; and Dr. Márcio Zaffalon Casati from Unicamp, who gave the lecture “Periodontal and Peri-implant Regeneration”.

“It is important for the student to participate in Joba because of the great interdisciplinarity. So you can find everything in the same place and quality things” says the professional, who has just graduated from Bahiana, Camila Farias Santos. She says that, as a student, she participated in four Conferences, always helping to organize the event.

As for the president of LABEDI, 8th semester Dentistry student, David Barros, “the cool thing about participating as an organizer is to build social relationships, because if you only stay in the technical part, studying, you are very closed and participating in these actions allows you to meet other people, researchers, teachers, other students. These relationships, in the future, can bear fruit”.

JOBA COMMUNITY - This year, the Jornada also held another edition of Joba Comunidade with the promotion of oral health through free oral hygiene activities for children from a daycare center in Salvador.

PERIODONTIC MEETING
The 1st Periodontics Meeting of Bahia arose from the need to bring together all undergraduate courses in Dentistry in Bahia, as well as Postgraduate courses in Periodontics and Implantology.

According to Professor Sandro, the Meeting had the participation of professors from other Dentistry faculties also on the organizing committee. “The periodontics professors from all the universities in Salvador are participating. There was a mutual commitment of all institutions. The idea is that we hold this meeting every two years, rotating the faculties to host the event.”

The Meeting was supported by FAPESP, the Department of Science and Technology, Society of Periodontology and the Brazilian Association of Dentistry | Bahia Section and was sponsored by Colgate and Straumann.

HONORED TEACHER
This year, Joba paid tribute to a young teacher, who has already come a long way both as a teacher and as a researcher. Dr. Gabriela Botelho Martins, professor of Stomatology, for 10 years at Bahiana, was the esteemed teacher to receive affection and recognition from both teachers and students. Graduated in Dentistry at UFBA in 1997, she became a Master in Dentistry also at UFBA in 2001 and defended her doctorate in 2004 at PUC-RS.

“Professor Gabriela is a source of pride for the Bahiana for her tireless dedication to the students, always in a good mood, always committed to transmitting knowledge and, therefore, there was a mobilization of students and teachers to honor her”, justifies Professor Sandro.

Always dedicated to Joba, teacher Gabriela says that she participates in the event in any way “whether as a commission, judging works, or in the organization, sitting on the floor and eating with a student, I participate in the Journey. This year I'm a little less active because of the tribute, but I'm still participating here, because I can't not participate”.
