For the Ballet Teatro Castro Alves (BTCA), April, Dance Month, begins with another presentation of “Urbis in Motus” on the circuit of universities in Salvador. Launched last November, this newest artistic project by the public dance company from Bahia arrives at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública on the 4th, at 18:30 pm, at Campus Cabula. Interaction of live performance and choreography, videomapping and urban intervention, the creation starts from urgent themes that protect diversity and mobilize struggles of social minorities: misogyny, racism and LGBTphobia – opportune guidelines to be reflected on with the public of academic students.

“Urbis in Motus” (“city in motion”, in Latin) is a proposition by Davi Cavalcanti (VJ Gabiru) together with BTCA's artistic director, Antrifo Sanches, and the company's artistic advisor, Dina Tourinho, with the support of Ballet Research Center. Two artist-researchers were invited to develop the choreographies with the company: professors from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) and theater directors Djalma Thürler, instigated by LGBTphobia issues, and Meran Vargens, with the theme of misogyny. The issue of racism is addressed in a videodance, featuring a solo by dancer Renivaldo Nascimento (Flexa II).

For this collective and reflective work, BTCA and its team, directors and choreographers, as well as the creators of the costumes and the soundtrack, acted in a dialogic and immersive way for a period of three months. Questioning intolerances and triggering different artistic languages to poetically express the defense of freedoms were the guides for this production.
