Bahiana signs an agreement with a Biotechnology company

A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, through the Dean of Research and Innovation, signed, on February 28, 2018, an agreement with BRASBIOTEC, a Biotechnology company focused on the development of products and projects in the area of ​​industrial microbiology, agriculture and the environment. The partnership aims to develop scientific and technological projects within the scope of the Research and Innovation Center (NUPI), more specifically to collaborate in the development and/or validation of biotechnological solutions with environmental, therapeutic, diagnostic and/or cosmetic purposes that have the potential to Marketplace.

To the Dean of Research and Innovation, prof. Atson Fernandes, "This is an action to mature the academy-business relationship, in accordance with Federal Law 13.243/2016, necessary for the strengthening of science with a view to developing new technology-based products, with possible economic and social impacts" .

The coordinator of NUPI, prof. Amâncio Souza highlights the importance of the partnership for the emergence of new perspectives and ways of acting for an academic laboratory. "The speed demanded for the development of products in the business scope has the potential to oxygenate research with a more academic or basic research viability, at the same time, companies benefit from the broad experimental experience and scientific rigor of the academic area at EBMSP. Therefore, having, in the same space, a company and a gym can be very advantageous for both sides".

According to the coordinator of the Technological Innovation Center at Bahiana (NIT), prof. ª Fernanda Ferraz, the results of these surveys have potential for innovation and are subject to intellectual protection, contributing not only to the scientific indicators but also to the innovation of the institution. "Furthermore, by strengthening this type of partnership, we are contributing not only to the advancement of science, but also to offering solutions to society's problems."
