The Municipal Health Department (SMS) has already performed this carnival 79 surgeries and stabilizations in victims of aggression on the face. The work is carried out by two itinerant teams of dentists who support the Health Care Modules installed in the main circuits of the festival. The locomotion of the teams is made by motorbike, to facilitate access to the closed streets or taken by the crowd of revelers.

"The care provided at the time of trauma is very important. In addition to reducing the risks for the patient, it also reduces the costs of the Unified Health System with hospitalization, since in most cases there is no need to transfer to emergencies", he says. Dr. Miguel Setúbal Andrade, responsible for one of the mobile teams. Rapid intervention also generates efficiency in care, as it does not use SAMU ambulances to transport patients from the Health Center to Hospitals. This allows them to always be available for highly complex cases that could not be handled in the Assistance Module.

Most occurrences were related to nose fractures, followed by jaw fracture, dental arch trauma, molar sinking and mouth lacerations. All the people who underwent the surgical intervention were victims of physical aggression, were between 20 and 30 years old, and most were male.

Dr. Miguel also explains that all victims treated in the Carnival circuits will be accompanied later by the Postgraduate Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology of the Dentistry Course at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública at San Rafael Hospital.

The action was carried out for the first time at Carnival last year by a single team. About 35 interventions were carried out on the occasion. This year the number is higher due to the increase in the offer of the service. The idea of taking the innovative project to the streets came from the General coordinator of SAMU 192, Dr. Ivan Paiva. "Analyzing past carnivals, we saw the need to offer the service. One case that caught my attention was a reveler who was attacked in Barra and had his face disfigured by punches and kicks. If we had a specialist at the time, this patient could be treated right there , at the Health Post", said Dr. Ivan.

The work, which improves every year, was published and will be presented at the Congress of Emergencies to be held in Paris, between the 2nd and 4th of June.
