BAHIANA PARTICIPATES IN UNIVERSITY TELEMEDICINE NETWORK

Bahiana has just received the approval of the University Telemedicine Network (RUTE) to participate in some SIGs (Special Interest Groups or Special Interest Groups), in which health professionals from the institutions belonging to the network set up a videoconference agenda to discuss teaching topics , Research and Assistance. The initiative's target audience is professors, researchers, students and employees of the Bahiana that develop activities in related areas. 

The only private Higher Education Institution in Bahia to be part of the University Network of Telemedicine, the Bahiana is authorized to participate in the GISs, having as moderate teachers of TeleDermatism (Prof.Enio Barreto), Cardiology (Prof. Marta Menezes), TelePsychiatry (Prof. Milena Pondé), Research, Development and Innovation - PDI (Prof. Antonio Carlos Costa), Health of Children and Adolescents (Prof. Isabel Carmen), Telemedicine and Health Informatics Standards (Prof. Henrique Morais).
This Friday (05/02), at 14 pm, the videoconference of SIG TeleDermato takes place, in the videoconference room of the Center for the Development of Educational Technologies (CEDETE), with the theme "Melanoma and Mitotic Rate"The lecture starts will be given byDr George Elgart,Professor of Dermatology, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.The telesession will start with the lecture and, after the presentation, videoconference participants will be able to ask questions in English or Spanish directly to the speaker. Questions can also be forwarded by email or instant message on MSN Messenger, at the same address: cborroto@live.com.
Na Monday (01/02), the first participation of the Bahiana at the Telecardiology GIS, when a videoconference was held with the theme: "Heart failure and AV conduction disorders", presented by the institution ISCMPA (Santa Casa de Porto Alegre – RS). Several institutions from Brazil participated.
All SIG transmissions are carried out in CEDETE's videoconference room and involve universities, medical schools, university hospitals throughout Brazil and other countries. According to the Professor of Medicine and Coordinator of CEDETE, Antônio Carlos Costa, one of the main factors for the Bahiana having received the approval to integrate the network, was the fact of having the technology required to participate in activities such as, for example, having a videoconference room and the link for transmissions.
The University Telemedicine Network (RUTE) is an initiative of the Ministry of Science and Technology and is supported by the Financier of Studies and Projects (Finep) and by the Brazilian Association of University Hospitals (Abrahue), under the coordination of the National Education and Research Network ( RNP). The objective is to support the improvement of projects in Telemedicine that already exist and encourage the emergence of future inter-institutional work. The initiative will provide the infrastructure of communication services, as well as part of the information technology and communication equipment for the research groups, promoting integration and connectivity and disseminating R&D (Research and Development) activities of the participating institutions.
