Bahiana is featured in Folha 2017's University Ranking

Courses of Bahiana stand out among the best in Brazil.

the courses of Bahiana stood out, once again, in Folha's traditional University Ranking, which, in the total of each graduation, evaluated 250 courses. Since 2002, the newspaper has carried out an annual assessment of higher education in Brazil.

In the 2017 edition, the Medicine course of Bahiana it ranked 18th among public and private institutions throughout Brazil, being the second best course in the Northeast, just behind the Federal University of Ceará.

In the scenario where only private entities are considered, the Medicine course of Bahiana was in 3rd place, behind only the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santa Casa de São Paulo and PUC of Rio Grande do Sul, being the first in the Northeast region.

The Biomedicine course also emerged among public and private institutions, ranking 24th nationally. In Bahia, the course was in 2nd place, behind only the State University of Santa Cruz, being the 1st best among private institutions.

In 2nd place, among public and private institutions in Bahia, the Nursing course was 62nd in the national scenario and 1st in the state, in the scope of private institutions.
"We owe this to good results in the National Student Performance Examination (ENADE), to the fact that we have full-time and part-time teachers, which makes them more effectively dedicated to teaching activities," says the dean gives Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani. According to her, the Bahiana it is well positioned for the recognition that the market gives to its courses "and also for the recognition of the MEC evaluator professors who recognize us as a quality institution".

To the Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Education at Bahiana, Prof. Maria de Lourdes de Freitas Gomes, the placement of these courses is the recognition of quality work that has been carried out for a long time. According to her, it is also the result of serious work, carried out with competence and commitment by a teaching and technical-administrative body whose objective is to train a health professional capable of meeting the demands of the Unified Health System at all levels. of attention. "We train professionals to assume behaviors guided by ethical, humanitarian and democratic values, evidenced by solidary attitudes at all times and professional procedures, a sense of responsibility in everyday actions and decisions, respect and commitment to life, technical-scientific training/instrumentalization and technological, in addition to the ability to carry out team actions that enable competent professional situations in the area and sub-areas of health”, he emphasizes.

According to the coordinator of the Biomedicine course, Prof. Dr. Geraldo Argolo, some points justify this recognition: “a faculty with a degree of excellence, good professional experience, committed and motivated; an objective and synergistic pedagogical project with social demands and technical and scientific innovations”. It also signals the systematic support of the group of pedagogues who monitor the entire teaching-learning practice, attending and closely following the difficulties and challenges of students and teachers, "in addition to good, clear and objective communication, with students and professors, seeking to understand the challenges and assertiveness in solving crises”, he concludes.

According to Argolo, the course has good capillarity with the labor market, based on strategic internship agreements, "in addition to the course's care for students in their respective internship practices, since they represent us and their performances are crucial for future professional opportunities”. He also highlights the fact that the Bahiana count on its own structure to carry out part of these stages.

"This result translates into an extremely interesting position for the Nursing course at Bahiana, because research is one of the indicators that company managers take into account. It is not a question of saying that the course is recognized only from the point of view of quality, but that it is visible to managers in the job market”, points out the course coordinator, Prof. Cristiane Magali Freitas dos Santos.

Complying with the curricular guidelines and developing a diversified way of learning through practices are points highlighted by the coordinator. Among the extension activities, the course now has the project Cuidar Faz Bem, in which students develop activities at the Medical Center of Bahiana; the Bahianescer, in which students from Bahiana, young people and teenagers from Mata Escura develop education and health work, reflecting on public policies and demands that affect this age group of society; the Anjos da Enfermagem project, already consolidated and which works on health education through playful activities and the performance in health and biosafety management at the Dental Center of the Bahiana it allows, in addition to practice, interdisciplinarity with colleagues in the Dentistry course.

The Physiotherapy course took 40th place in the ENADE score. Psychology was also highly rated, ranking 4th among 34 courses offered by private institutions in Bahia.

The Dentistry course emerged as the best among private institutions in Bahia and third place among public and private institutions in the state.
