Scholars Celebrate Biomedical Day

Programming was promoted by the Athletic Association of Biomedicine.

Promoting greater integration among Biomedicine academics through playful and educational activities was the way that the Biomedical Athletic Association honored the Biomedical Day, celebrated on November 20th. The activities took place in the morning at the Cabula Academic Unit.

The first action was a round of conversation with course graduates and students, which promoted the exchange of experiences within the scope of the research. Participants at the table were the former student and recently approved in the Doctoral program at the University of the State of Florida, Caique Costa and the graduates Felipe Ferreira, current coordinator of the Biomedicine course at the Catholic University of Salvador (UCSal) and Luciane Santos, professor at course of Bahiana.

     
João Filho, a 4th semester student of Biomedicine, says that Associação Atlética was formed in March 2017 and that, with the passage of Biomedical Day, the opportunity for the group to be more integrated into the academic activities of the group arose. Bahiana. "We offer volleyball and handball classes, but we felt the need to insert ourselves more in academia, to have this visibility as an institution of the course. So, the opportunity arose for us to participate in the organization of the Biomedical Day and, together, with professors Sidney Santana and Geraldo Ferraro, we managed to put together a program that proposed not only the theoretical part, but also a more playful part, something in addition to promoting science, promoting the most playful thing".

In addition to the conversation circle, a short photography course was held with the Biomedicine teacher Luiz Sérgio Nunes, a yoga class with the instructor Rosana Machado Politano, in addition to volleyball games.
     
During the week of celebrations, a non-perishable food collection campaign was also carried out. "It is interesting that the students understand that this whole initiative also has a social part. So, it is Biomedical Day, but the opportunity arose to make this collection of food for a social entity that is still under analysis". Donations were collected throughout the week.

Between the points that lead to Bahiana Celebrating Biomedical Day, the professor and coordinator of Biomedicine, Geraldo Ferraro, highlights the course's position nationwide. "Taking into account that we are celebrating, next year, the 15th anniversary of Biomedicna in Bahia, because ours is the 1st Biomedicine course in the state and is now nationally recognized among the 24 best courses in Brazil, both by the MEC and by others assessment institutions such as the Folha de São Paulo ranking, being considered the best course in Salvador, we need to ratify this based on this recognition by each one of us, the academic community, students, professors and the institution itself”.
     
According to him, the role of students in organizing the celebration encourages teachers even more. “We have to take our day and put it as another moment to remember everything we worked and work to get where we are. And the students believe this from the moment they put themselves as protagonists of this celebration. This motivates us as teachers, managers to continue working for the growth of the course”.
