The Center for Voiding Disorders in Children (CEDIMI) of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública held, on the night of November 14, at the Academic Unit Brotas: Seminar on Urinary Disorders in Children with Disabilities. The event was attended by the guest Prof. Dr. Anne Wright, general secretary of the International Children's Continence Society, a world reference in the study and research of urinary disorders in childhood.

The program began with the presentation of research papers developed by CEDIMI interns. The meeting allowed the exchange of experiences between the academics and the guest who commented on all the works.

Anne Wright was very interested and highlighted the quality of the works presented. "I was very impressed with the studies presented here by medical students. I don't see so many papers of this quality being presented by graduate students in other parts of the world." In the second moment of the meeting, the guest presented a class and was able to talk with students about doubts and new points.

Rebeca Ribeiro, a 6th semester student of Medicine, emphasizes the importance of participating in scientific events of this type. "Introducing our research to a person who has a job outside here is extremely important. It is an opportunity to train English, train a presentation – which here was almost a presentation at a congress – to be evaluated, criticized and have your work recognized is an opportunity of a lifetime and I had it here today."

About her experience at CEDIMI, Rebeca emphasizes the importance of developing both in research and in extension. "CEDIMI is a highly enriching experience because until the 6th semester we have little experience of contact with the patient and having the opportunity to be there attending and facing real world problems, brings us closer to the doctor's activity, to understanding the patient , their problems. And the research part is already another component of the faculty, it is essential for the physician to continue seeking knowledge, innovating, I even believe that we have to be part of the construction of knowledge and not just reproducers".

Isabela da Silva Dantas, also a 6th semester medical student, presented the study "Association of functional constipation between children and parents: a population-based study". For her, presenting her work to Dr. Anne Wright "was a great opportunity and a great challenge because, presenting to a person from outside Brazil and with such relevance in this area, really gives us a little anxiety. On the other hand, we could see that we are at a good level, that we are able to discuss on equal terms with people who come from other places and that is very good."

The event was coordinated by Professor Ana Aparecida Braga, from the Psychology course and coordinator of the Psychology internship, by Maria Luiza Veiga, CEDIMI physiotherapist, by CEDIMI physicians, Glícia Abreu and Eneida Dourado and by Dr. Ubirajara Barroso, professor of the course. of Medicine and general coordinator of CEDIMI.

"I believe it was one of the happiest moments of my academic life. The way the students prepared themselves; they communicated in English, which is not easy, even more so for such an important person - worldwide known as Dr. Anne Wright. We had great work, I was extremely proud and a believer that we can indeed have a promising future as good doctors. What they developed here today was really fantastic." declared Barrroso.

CEDIMI's general coordinator explains that the invitation to Dr. Anne Wright is part of a series of international interaction initiatives at the center that, over the years, has received other important names in urology.

CEDIMI is one of the reference units of the Medical Center of Bahiana and deals with voiding changes in childhood, through multidisciplinary care with pediatric urologists, physiotherapists, nurses, nutritionists, psychologists, in addition to a complete urodynamic equipment.

Maria Gabriele Correia, a former intern and currently a psychologist at CEDIMI, says that she returned from the Continuing Education Program, which is an extension program for the postgraduate course at Bahiana that allows the newly graduated to return to the clinic where they did their internship. "It's very interesting to be at CEDIMI in another position. The activities today are no longer the same as they used to do when I was an intern. In terms of professional enrichment, this work has developed me a lot".
