1st and 2nd year medical students, monitors of the "First Aid for All Program", led by prof. André Dantas Zimmermann, held, on October 7, the First Aid course for students in the 6th and 7th years of Colégio Estadual Manoel Vitorino.

In a practical way and with the use of mannequins, necessary measures to be adopted by anyone, during a cardiopulmonary arrest or in the event of trauma, were emphasized. Basic life support measures, use of automatic defibrillator (AED), limb immobilization techniques and care in transporting injured people were some of the activities demonstrated by the students of the Bahiana. "The interaction between students of Bahiana and from college was the strength of training. All agreed that the exchange of experiences, communication, are extra gains in the activity", says Professor of Medicine, Dr. Eliana de Paula, who coordinates the partnership actions between the Bahiana and the school unit.

According to Prof. Tânia Novais, vice-principal of the school, "knowledge of first aid for students in our school unit is essential for me, as it becomes a basic need whose premise is the indiscriminate saving of lives." Another four teachers participated in the course, committing themselves to multiplying it to the other students at the school.

This course is part of a series of other activities that have been developed by teachers and students of the Bahiana at Colégio Manoel Vitorino, in support of science teachers in family planning classes, prevention of STDs, small business management course, guidance for pregnant teenagers, classes on financial management, curriculum development and others. "Finally, social responsibility actions, a value cultivated in Bahiana with great zeal and love", declares Dr. Eliana de Paula.
