CANDEAL PROJECT PERFORMS WALK

Share

A convening walk marks the launch of Health, Environment and Work Project at Candeal de Brotas. The event is an initiative of the NGO Grupo Saúde, Meio Ambiente e Trabalho and has the support of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública and EMBASA. The walk starts at 15 pm, TODAY (10) and leaves from the Family Health Unit of Brotas (End. August 18, Candeal Pequeno, s/n). The project aims to develop environmental education activities, as well as encourage the formation of a solid waste recycling cooperative, generating income for the local population.

"The role of Bahiana complementing this action is to optimize logistical resources so that the actions of this project, based on the pillars of health education, can contribute to the training of its students in the practice of public health, helping them to understand and consolidate the SUS", is which declares the coordinator of the Health, Environment and Work Group, Lázaro Rodrigues.

The walk will include the participation of members of the Group, community agents from the Family Health Program, EMBASA agents and students and teachers from Bahiana, participants of the Candeal Project, a social and health action developed by the School in the district of Brotas.

According to Lázaro Rodrigues, solid waste is a guarantee of survival for many families in Candeal, but it is still necessary to promote environmental education actions so that they do not cause damage to health. "Garbage for some Candeal residents is synonymous with a guarantee of subsistence, but these workers mostly do not know the risks they are subjected to, and that their neighbors submit to the storage of collected materials in their homes and surroundings".

During the walk, the participants of the action will invite residents and local businesses, making them aware of the importance of carrying out selective collection, as well as the reuse of solid waste as a source of income generation.

 Candeal Project – Bahiana

A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública has been carrying out, since 2006, a social and educational action in the Sanitary District of Brotas. It is a health education work that seeks to help people deal with diseases such as hypertension, get rid of addictions such as cigarettes and have a better quality of life during pregnancy. The students of Bahiana, in turn, participate in the initiative as an academic extension activity or even within the workload of some subjects. They are students of medicine, occupational therapy, nursing and psychology.

There are currently 12 groups operating in different locations in the region, some of which are supported by the Family Health Units of Candeal and Engenho Velho. The groups have works aimed at different focuses: quality of life, women's health, the elderly, teenagers, children, smokers, diabetics and hypertensive patients, pregnant women, the environment and work. All activities are open to the public and carried out free of charge.
