A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública celebrated, on October 25th, the Science C-Day and the National Technology Week with a special program that took place at the Academic Unit Brotas.

The dean of the Bahiana Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Solinai, the Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Education, Maria de Lourdes de Freitas Gomes and Extension, Carolina Pedroza, the Dean of Research and Innovation, Atson Fernandes, the Development Coordinator of People, Luiza Ribeiro, in addition to teachers, course coordinators and academics.

On the occasion, the awards for the best Scientific Initiation works presented during the Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of the Bahiana (MCC) this year.

The dean Atson Fernandes explains that the C-Day of Science is a movement promoted by the forum of research and graduate deans, being the moment when events and actions are held in several teaching and research institutions, the which converges with the National Technology Week. "This day is precisely for not only celebrating science, but to speak in defense of it, without which we cannot build development, generate wealth and transform society. Here at Bahiana, in particular, we used the day to celebrate with some lectures and awards for scientific papers presented at our MCC. Today, we decided here that, in the coming years, we will always celebrate Science Day with the delivery of awards”.

"The importance of scientific knowledge for the transformation of society" was the theme of the lecture given by the adjunct professor of Bahiana and member of the Academy of Sciences of Bahia, Luiz Cláudio Correia. The second lecture of the evening was "Science as a tool for the redefinition of basic education", given by Alcydes S. Magalhães, state director of the Youth Center for Science and Culture (CJCC).

The program ended with the delivery of awards to the authors of scientific papers from all categories presented at the MCC (See list).

The coordinator of the Scientific and Technological Initiation Nucleus (NICTEC), Prof. Thais Calasans, declares that the best part of the work developed with academics aims to closely monitor their growth as researchers. "The coolest thing is to see them at the beginning of all the work and, over the course of the year, how they manage to grow and start to value scientific knowledge as an increase in their professional training. We know that not all of them will be researchers, but only of planting this little seed and bringing them the knowledge and experience of research is already very enriching".

Awards

This year, the Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana subdivided some categories such as Oral Communication, which rewarded works in each undergraduate course.

“Evaluation of the Immunomodulatory Activity of Physalis Angulata Ethanol Extract” was the name of the work of student Paula Ladeia, awarded in the category Best Oral Communication by Undergraduate Course, subcategory Biomedicine. "It was a difficult job, because you need to select your results well to be able to present them well. So, it was very worthwhile to receive this award, which was the recognition of the effort of a month of work", points out the student.

The professor of the Nursing course, Alexandra Noemi Silva, celebrated the third place in the category Conversation Wheels with the work “Students' Perception about the Care of the Body after Death”, developed within the program Cuidar Faz Bem. "These are two very feelings. First, I'm heading up a very inspiring extension project that has only one semester in a health unit in Salvador and I'm very proud because, despite it being only one semester, we've already managed to present a work of such significance at the fair and still win. an award. The students were very happy and so was I."
