Artificial intelligence, inventions and gadgets aimed at health solutions were some of the technological innovations presented during the I International Symposium on Research in Physiotherapy which took place on October 20th and 21st, at the Cabula Academic Unit of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública.

The event was held by the Physiotherapy course at Bahiana with the sponsorship of DGM Eletrônica, Sensomed Cursos e Consultoria, Integrar Saúde and AF Physiotherapy. During the two days, hundreds of students, researchers and health professionals were gathered in order to promote the exchange of evidence-based clinical practices, aligned with technologies and innovation in health.

The symposium was attended by national and international speakers, as well as clinical physiotherapists and other sectors involved in the process of technological development and innovation. The VII Physiotherapy Research Journey of the Bahiana, the III Meeting of Faculty-Students of the Master's Program in Health Technologies of Bahiana and the II Meeting of Physiotherapy Graduates.

According to the coordinator of the Physiotherapy course, Luciana Bilitário, the XNUMXst International Symposium on Research in Physiotherapy is the result of the seminars already held by Bahiana. “For undergraduates, it is inspiring, we have four very strong research groups at the institution and, in these groups, we have around 20 students in each of them. It is also the time to submit and present your scientific work and listen to the opinion of other people.” Another point highlighted by the professor was the encouragement that the institution gives students to think about research, innovation and technology with society as a focus. "We are a means of transmitting knowledge, we are mediating this, but our objective must be society, people".

To the president of the symposium and professor of the Physiotherapy course at Bahiana, Cristiane Dias, the I International Symposium on Research in Physiotherapy revealed several advances, both for the physiotherapy profession as part of the team of health professionals, “but mainly because of the opportunity that Bahiana it had to host this international event and because it is about research, technology and innovation that today are the pillars for the rehabilitation of people with functional limitations”. According to her, it was also the time to show society that accessible technology exists and that it is possible. "The objective of our event was to intertwine academia with clinical practice, research and business, culminating in the impact on society."

Newly graduated from the Physiotherapy course at Bahiana, Taís Silva Nascimento says that participating in the symposium was a good opportunity to better prepare for the job market. “Today, physiotherapy care has to be something fast, objective and practical, so technology is here to help us. I think this symposium was something that drew attention to technology, for us to update ourselves and get ready for the job market."

Caroline Landin, also a graduate and graduated in 2017.1, expresses her predilection for research, which attracted her to the event. "I really enjoy working with research, since the 4th semester I started this activity and now I'm a researcher at the HTLV Center at Bahiana. The area of Physiotherapy research is growing a lot and I see the difference that makes all students here at the institution to understand what research is, how to read a scientific article. We are encouraged to do this from an early age."
