Congratulations, BAHIANA!

Bahiana is always concerned about doing a lot for society, know a little of what it does.

Events and Projects focused on Social Responsibility.

MULTIDISCIPLINARY

1- Scientific and Cultural Exhibition
Annual event that mobilizes all the School's courses around projects and research with themes in all areas. Academic-scientific works from all courses at the faculty are presented, which provokes a multidisciplinary interaction and encourages the exercise of research among students. The exhibition features health promotion and disease prevention actions, through information stands and cultural actions.

2- Hearts of Bahiana
The intention of this project is to make students transform society, giving them ammunition to positively interfere in the community and providing them with an awareness, as a professional, of the importance of preventing problems. Over time, the success of the project made it go beyond the boundaries of the School Bahiana and reach all Bahians. Today, students set up service stations at various events in Salvador, when requested. In this way, the prevention work reaches the communities and, therefore, spreads throughout society.

3- Journey Bahiana for Study of Pain
The Academic League Bahiana for the Study of Pain (LABED), affiliated to Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, promotes the Journey Bahiana for the Study of Pain. Pain is the main reason for seeking health services. The high prevalence, the high costs generated and the great functional loss associated with chronic pain syndromes result in an important social and psychological impact, constituting a public health problem. Interdisciplinary treatment for its control is something established and encouraged by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). Thus, pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies act in this area of concentration, both in research and in care. In this context, the Journey Bahiana for the Study of Pain aims to: bring together researchers, educators and academics for updating, debate and dissemination of pathophysiological processes and pain assessment, prevention and intervention; strengthen the multi/interdisciplinary team in caring for patients with chronic pain; clarify for the lay community affected by pain, the psychic, affective and behavioral aspects associated with this condition and alternatives for their self-control, preventing new injuries and worsening of the condition; between others.

4- Candeal Project
This project is an interdisciplinary pedagogical practice in permanent groups of Health Education in the community, integrating teachers and students from undergraduate courses at the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública (medicine, physiotherapy, psychology, dentistry, occupational therapy, nursing and biomedicine). The groups serve different segments (obese, hypertensive, diabetic, teenagers, women, elderly, pregnant women, sedentary people, smokers and workers) registered in a Family Health Unit in Candeal (USF/Candeal), in the city of Salvador. The practice has as theoretical frameworks the interdisciplinarity and the constructivist model of teaching/learning, encouraging students from different areas of training to carry out integrated work plans and coordinate together health education group sessions with that population. Each team has a supervising professor, a USF/Candeal professional and 15 students. The results are very positive, indicating an increase in self-care, self-esteem and acquisition of healthy habits by the participating population, enrichment in the practice of students from different areas, especially those in medicine who report learning a new way of seeing the disease, and adding value to the work of USF/Candeal with the academic partnership.

5- Center for Voiding Disorders in Childhood – CEDIMI
CEDIMI is the only center in Bahia specialized in treating children with voiding disorders. Bed wetting has already left many boys and girls grounded. But what many parents don't know is that when urinary incontinence happens frequently, it can mean that the child has a voiding disorder, a problem that is often associated with urinary infection, vesicoureteral reflux, and kidney damage. However, the most serious is the way parents deal with the child who is a victim of the problem, establishing severe punishments and exposing them to traumatic situations.
Thinking about it, the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública set up CEDIMI (Centre for Urinal Disorders in Children), which is the first center in Bahia specialized in the treatment of voiding disorders in children. At CEDIMI, it is possible to obtain a diagnosis and, if necessary, submit the child to appropriate treatment.
The CEDIMI team is made up of a pediatric urologist, a physiotherapist, nurses, a nutritionist and a psychologist who have complete urodynamic equipment. In addition to caring for children, the center pays special attention to parents, advising them on how to deal with the problem of bed-wetting (night enuresis) and other voiding disorders.
But it's not just about taking care of the kids. CEDIMI is very concerned about doing this in the best possible way. The center is coordinated by Dr. Ubirajara Barroso and Dr. Patrícia Lordêlo, who are pioneers in the use of physical therapy to treat voiding disorders. This is the case of biofeedback and surface parasacral electrostimulation techniques, which are proven to be more effective than traditional treatment, made with medications. In addition to the best results, the use of physiotherapy discards the side effects caused by the drugs.
The center is also a pioneer in using electrical stimulation, on an outpatient basis, to treat urinary incontinence. This procedure, like many others, has generated a series of publications in the world's leading urology journals, as well as lectures on the subject in Brazil and abroad.

Thus, the Bahiana further expanded its social contribution. A good example of this is the Candeal Project Learning Community, in which Health Education Groups, interdisciplinary and multiprofessionals work, with the participation of students and teachers from all undergraduate courses offered by the school, together with technicians from the Health Unit. Family Health, health agents and people in the community.
