How did life on earth come about? How did this life develop to the current stage of civilization? How is the human body formed? How many tears does a human being shed over a lifetime? These and other questions are in the film "The History of Life", from the BBC of London, presented at the opening of the VIII Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana, which began this Friday (26), in the morning, at the Cabula Academic Unit. Students, teachers, employees, members of guest social projects, as well as high school and elementary school students from Colégio Estadual Roberto Santos participated in the opening ceremony of the Exhibition held in Auditorium 1, with the presence of the Director of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, teacher Maria Luisa Soliani.

"Our Exhibitions are always open to the community. We always bring children and teenagers of school age, adults and seniors. It is a time when we are giving back to society what we have been producing scientifically within the Bahiana", declares the teacher Maria Luisa.

As a first activity, in addition to the film, a lecture was presented by the professor of Oncohematology at the Bahiana, Ronald Palotta. He addressed aspects of interest to scientific research, placing the human being as a constant researcher. "Man is an inquisitor since childhood. When we are children, we are always asking what this is, where does that come from. So in this first moment, when students are entering college, they are already guided to ask certain questions and also how to answer these questions", he says.
After the video was shown, the drawing of air tickets was held, whose competitors were 65 students who signed up for work at the VIII Mostra, from the 01st to the 31st of July. The winning students were Tarcísio de Melo Araújo, with the study "Molecular markers based on SPAR (single primer amplification reaction) indicate a new species of gymnotus (pisces gymnotus) from Reconcavo Norte - BA", under the guidance of Professor Flora Maria de Campos, of the Biomedicine course. Besides Tarcísio, students Tiago Santana, Gabriel Murici Cunha and Rodrigo Zuculato also participated in the construction of the work.

The other tickets were given in the same draw to Biomedicine student Caroline Farias Pirajá for the "study of the leaf anatomy of Psidium Guajava", with the guidance of professors Léia Maria and Moema Bellintanni. Caroline also had the collaboration of colleagues Ana Cerqueira de Melo and Fernanda Seixas.

Panels and Stands

Once again, the Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana it had a "Poster Session" which is installed in Auditorium 2. The idea is for students to present, through information panels, their research work. In all, 146 panels are on display with research by undergraduate students from the seven courses of the Bahiana, among them, works by scholarship students of the Institutional Scientific Initiation Scholarship Program - PIBIC. Another 170 works will be presented by groups of undergraduate students, through oral communication.

All courses from Bahiana are represented at MCC8 with service stands. In the multifunctional space, it is possible to carry out anthropometric assessments, in which weight, height, body mass index, waist and hips are measured - to identify possible cardiovascular problems - and skinfolds. You can also check the distribution of weight on the feet and the types of feet. All services are carried out by the students themselves, under the supervision of teachers.

Social projects

In addition to the medical service stands, the Exhibition is also integrating spaces with social projects that the Bahiana performs in communities in Salvador and invited projects.

Jewelry, vases and boxes of recyclable materials are some of the products on display at Grupo Arte Esperança's stand: Bahiana in the Community / PSF Candeal. The project is an initiative of the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública and it serves people with special needs in the Candeal community, with training workshops for the production of handicrafts.

According to the member of the group's support committee, Cláudia Oliveira Gonzaga, the project achieved important results for the participants, "I think this project is very good because people used to do nothing, they stayed at home and idled. Not now. They go to work. , look for activities. They are people who didn't even want to leave the house before." Cláudia highlights that one of the most important points of the project is that "after the group started, people became closer and created bonds of friendship".

Another exhibition that catches the visitor's attention is the one by D. Zélia Andrade Lefundes. She is a patient in the physiotherapy service at Bahiana, at the Medical Center of Brotas. There, she was encouraged by her physical therapist, Dr. Silvana, practicing handicrafts. There are boxes, notebooks, diaries, pencil holders, pads of paper. All decorated with techniques ranging from painting to collage, including decoupage. "At first I didn't want to do things because I felt awkward and today I'm here for my first exhibition", says D. Zélia, who has even started selling the products. "My debut was in the family, around Christmas time."

What for some can serve as a socialization tool, or a chance to earn extra income, for others it can be used as a therapy. This is the case of Projeto Social Criamundo, invited to participate in MCC 8. The initiative is coordinated by Hospital Juliano Moreira and promotes various craft workshops for patients with mental disorders. Classes take place three times a week and feature braiding techniques, candles and ornamental soaps.
"I always had artistic ability and after I joined the project I found myself", says Leni Nunes do Santos, member of Criamundo. Another participant, Bárbara Pinto, found a form of therapy in the activity. "I found myself an artist after joining Criamundo. But, in addition to art, I feel good, I feel better doing this work", she declares.

Social Activities with Visitors

As part of the Mostra's social action program, several activities were developed for children and teenagers at Colégio Estadual Roberto Santos. In the morning, students aged between 05 and 07 years participated in a lecture on first aid and prophylaxis activity at the brushodrome. During the afternoon shift, the little ones watched the Little Theater Joãozinho's story, about hygiene habits.

Accompanied by student monitors of the Bahiana, the teenagers participated in various socio-educational activities such as professional orientation workshops, guided visit to the anatomy laboratory and lecture Taking care of the body.

Also present at the MCC8, caregivers of children with the HIV virus and adults who are also carriers, assisted by the Beneficent Institution Conceição Macêdo. The group participated in brushodrome activities and a first aid lecture.

For students of Bahiana, the program also had nine mini-courses.
