"It is important for us to see how the journey consolidates more and more, becomes more encouraging and empowered, because that is what we need, to see in our profession, this empowerment, maintaining tradition and innovation, because it is always important for us to be innovating, but based on the principles of our code of ethical nursing conduct". The words of the former student of the Nursing course at Bahiana, Jaddy Kelly Matheus Alves, summarize what was the 9th Nursing journey of the Bahiana which took place on the 14th and 15th of September, at the Cabula Academic Unit.

The event opened with the round table "Tradition, Innovation and Humanity – Images from Our History", theme of this edition of the journey. The dean of the Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, the dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Education, Maria de Lourdes de Freitas Gomes, the dean of Extension Carolina Pedroza de Carvalho Garcia, the administrative assistant of the Academic Department of Graduate Studies , Research Innovation and Extension, Eliana Santos, the coordinator of the Nursing course, Cristiane Magali Freitas dos Santos and the guests Tânia Bulcão, president of the Brazilian Nursing Association Section Bahia, Lúcia Duque Moliterno, president of the Union of Nurses of the State of Bahia and Maria Luísa de Castro Almeida, President of the Regional Nursing Council of Bahia. The occasion also marked the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the creation of the Nursing course at Bahiana.

"I feel part of this story, I feel a nurse in this story," declared the dean of Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, who, at the time, gave an account of the entire history of the course's creation, emphasizing the management character imprinted by the practice of nursing. "In addition to these management skills, nursing is accompanied by caring for the other that is the root of our institution. It's 10 years of the Nursing course, 65 years of Bahiana, therefore, important milestones for our institution," stated Soliani.

"Being here today is reliving a history, because we give new meaning, strengthen and resist. Historically, we are going through very difficult times in Brazil, but it is also the time to celebrate a course that has 10 years of history and with one day day by day believing that we can always do the best: the best for the other, the best for ourselves," declared Prof. Carolina Pedroza in her speech."

The 9th Nursing Conference of Bahiana it also marked the holding of the IV Meeting of Graduates of the Nursing Course and the III Nursing Research Seminar. The vast program included workshops, roundtable, conference, presentation of academic leagues and an artistic-cultural moment. Student Antônio Carlos Costa Lima, from the 1st semester, participated in the journey with great enthusiasm, as he was able to present his artistic side by dancing two choreographies. "Nursing has always been my passion and the Bahiana it has always been my first choice, for what she is, for what she goes through. Before joining here, I looked up alumni's report to find out what it was like. After I joined, I realized that Nursing is much more than I imagined and today I like my professional choice even more".

For Prof. Cristiane Magali, the great challenge of this edition of the journey was to attract participants to an event that sought to reflect the history of the institution's Nursing course, "this is sometimes challenging because the participants in this type of event scientific always seek to participate because of the complementary nature of scientific knowledge and, in fact, we wanted to make an invitation to reflect on our history". For Magali, the great differential of the Nursing course at Bahiana it is in training a more critical and reflective professional who has research present in the classroom. "We have a course strengthened by excellent teaching, with several extension experiences and which adds the value of research. The research is within the classroom, at the same time permeating the extension experiences".

The second day of work was marked with a tribute to Prof. Maria de Lourdes de Freitas Gomes, the first coordinator of the course, a position she held for seven years. "The Nursing course is born innovative, but based on institutional values, understanding the school's mission, which was fundamental for its growth. Over time, the course was built with the participation of many hands, including students who had a fundamental role in this construction process, as they always had a lot of listening. Everything went very well and, when the course was recognized, we achieved the maximum grade. This shows that we were on the right path." Now, as dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Education, she points out new steps in Nursing within the Bahiana "We have extended this excellence to both research and extension, through various social programs that involve Nursing. We have had very large growth in the area of specialization, we have a special doctoral program that privileges the course's professors, there is perspective for a greater increase in the area of research, with a good probability of creating a professional master's degree in Nursing".
