Academics and professionals in the field of Physical Education and other areas of health participated, on September 2, in the II Physical Activity Forum, at the Cabula Academic Unit of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública.

The program was coordinated by the professor of the Physical Education course, Ciro Oliveira Queiroz, and focused on a discussion on the theme: evaluation and prescription of physical exercise in the general population and with non-communicable chronic diseases.

The event was attended by Prof. Fernando Catanho, graduated in Physical Education and specialized in Biochemistry and Exercise Physiology by UNICAMP, Prof. Vinicius Galvão, graduated in Physical Education and Physiotherapy by the Catholic University and Prof. Roberto Maciel, specialist in Exercise Physiology from USP and professor at UNEB. Also present were the doctor in public health from the Federal University of Bahia, Prof. Rogério Tosta, the physiologist of Sport Clube do Vitória, Prof. Alexandre Guimarães, in addition to other professionals.

According to the teacher. Ciro Queiroz the forum reached the expected expectations. “We managed to bring together students and professionals in the field of Physical Education and opened a discussion on physical performance and health with expert speakers from various educational institutions such as UNICAMP, UEFS, UNEB and Bahiana. We achieved our purpose, which was to discuss the practice and prescription of physical activity based on scientific evidence at both the individual and population levels”.

Clarcson Plácido, coordinator of the Physical Education course at Bahiana, comments that the forum, since its inception, was designed to enable physical education professionals to discuss topics of relevance to their professional performance. "Each year it is a challenge to assemble this event and it is a great satisfaction because perhaps it is one of the few moments in which we stop to address the perspectives of scientific evidence focused both on exercise prescription and on monitoring the adaptations caused by exercise, having as main outcome health promotion.”

For Prof. Dr. Fernando Catanho, alternatives and strategies such as a Physical Activity Forum make it possible to bring the scientific environment closer to the reality of students. "Students often find it difficult to establish this approximation with what is being raised and discovered by science and bring it to their reality, therefore, these scientific events serve to make this approximation of an environment that, for many, is very theoretical and distant to a more real thing, which will be the daily life of this academic”.

The teacher of the Physical Education course at Bahiana Vínicius Miranda Galvão explains that the event brought together a multidisciplinary team to bring the latest scientific evidence to the academic environment. "We brought together qualified speakers to bring cutting-edge news on the topics addressed in order to train participants and contribute to their professional training."

The president of the Academic League of Physical Activity and Health (LAAFS) and student of the 4th semester of the Physical Education course at Bahiana, Rebecca Albuquerque, emphasizes that the second forum is very interesting and addresses provocative contexts in which issues present in the literature can have other approaches. “Talking about health promotion is enriching and the forum brought several approaches that allow us to assess the best alternative for certain situations in the prescription of physical activity, that is, this is the principle of biological individuality”.
