“This result reflects the institution's DNA. We work in a very multidisciplinary way, we have a very collaborative activity. The institution has a very strong solidarity DNA and the projects are visible. We have, for example, social inclusion that makes an interface between the academic, the teacher, the student and the technical-administrative. Everything we do involves everyone and everyone around us. Our vision, our mission and our values are not simply on paper, they are exercised on a daily basis”, highlights Telma Bastos.

Luiza Ribeiro, People Development coordinator at Bahiana highlights that it is the people development policy that implies professional growth, elaborated and executed in a shared way between the direction, human resources, managers, employees and reflects on the achievement of awards at GPTW. "I cite, as an example, the process of preparing the Career and Remuneration Plans (PCCR) structured after numerous meetings with representatives from all areas, held over a period of almost two years and being approved in 2012, without restriction, by the Secretariat Region of Work and Employment of the State of Bahia, a result of the broad dialogue established with the collaborators”.

Ribeiro also states that the exchange of knowledge, moral and material incentives for technical training, converted into benefits, are other examples that the GPTW award is a natural consequence of the people development policy of the Bahiana.

"In 2016, the Human Resources Center carried out 590 admission processes, 156 of which resulted from internal selection processes and we reached 54 h/h (man/hour) of training for employees and 48 h/h for managers from the specific demands of the areas and the institutional strategic planning” points out the People Development coordinator. Also this year, 78 employee promotions were carried out, validating PCCR forecasts.

Luiza Ribeiro explains that the implementation of the Performance Assessment is another instrument developed collectively, implemented by HR in 2014, combined with the systematic practice of feedback, which strengthens familiarization with the individual assessment processes, leading to the maturity of employees in the formation of a critical and constructive view of the processes and relationships within the institution. “This, in turn, in a sensitive and empathetic way, seeks to listen, reflect and act in favor of people's growth and in the improvement of processes”, adds Ribeiro.

She also highlights that the spontaneous participation of 69% of the 1.173 active employees of the Bahiana, at the time, as respondents to the 2016 GPTW questionnaire, indicates the value inspiring of this award to the community.

"In this context, our employees position the GPTW, not as an end, but as a means for the development of people and, consequently, of Bahiana, as they understand that their purpose is to reflect the ambience of the place where they work and signal opportunities for improvement. We are very proud to win him”, concludes Luiza Ribeiro.

Feedback with employees

Employees from individual sectors of the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública participated in presentations of the results of the Great Place to Work Award (GPTW) 2016, in recent weeks. Promoted by the Human Resources department, the meetings took place at the Academic Units Brotas and Kabula.

Headed by the Human Resources manager of the Bahiana, Telma Bastos, and the Organizational Development supervisor, Pollyanna Leal, the presentations scored the evaluated categories and where the Bahiana needs to develop initiatives in order to further improve the work environment for each employee of the institution.

"The survey provides a diagnosis of the climate within the institution. It measures the level of employee satisfaction in being part of the company and, more precisely, in their area within the company", explains Pollyanna Leal.

For employee Ednoilton Santos, occupational safety technician, the feedback presented to employees is very important, as it makes room for their participation in the institution's growth and improvement. "I found this feedback from HR super interesting, this transparency, this detailing and also giving us the opportunity to further implement this process, because, at the end of the presentation, a form was made available so that the employee could put their impressions to take to Bahiana to an even higher plateau. I am sure that HR will study the possibility of meeting the wishes of employees and, if this is achieved, I know that the Bahiana will reach an even higher place in the GPTW”.
