XIII Health Fair is promoted in the Parish of Brotas
Event marks the partnership between the community and the Bahiana.

Residents of the neighborhood of Brotas had access to various activities, such as measuring capillary blood glucose, measuring blood pressure, calculating body mass index, preventing caries and visual acuity tests. The services, offered free of charge, were part of the 13th edition of the Health Fair of the Parish of Nossa Senhora de Brotas, an event that took place last Saturday (27).
Result of the partnership between the local parish and the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, the Fair brought together professors and students from Medicine, Biomedicine, Physiotherapy, Psychology courses, as well as technicians from the Teaching-Assistance Clinic of Bahia (ADAB) with the aim of promoting health in the community.
During the event, consultations were also offered in medical clinic, pediatrics, gynecology (vaginal cytology), physiotherapy (welcoming about self-care, application of taping, suction therapy, stretching and posture groups), preventive examination and vaccination.
Professors Maria Cristina Gomes, Eliana de Paula Santos and Ana Paula Monteiro were present, as well as ophthalmologists and residents of IBOPC, residents of IPERBA, students and professors of health courses at the Bahiana and other professionals in the field of pediatrics, gynecology and clinical medicine. The Academic League of Clinical Medicine (LACM) and the Athletic Association of Bahiana were also represented.
“We started the fair through the Pastoral Familiar, with the objective of promoting health care to the residents of the neighborhood of Brotas and today we are completing the 13th edition, which is extremely important to promote health due to the difficulties that the area presents and we have the great support of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública”, says Paulo Henrique Simone, a member of the family pastoral activities of the Parish of Brotas and fair coordinator.
The fair generates benefits for the community, which, in most cases, finds it difficult to access these services through the Unified Health System (SUS). As this is an extensive area with a relevant epidemiological condition, the idea is to carry out a joint effort, summoning all health students, explains the nurse and manager of the Medical Center and the technical area, Ana Paula Monteiro.
“We promote physical activities and medical care, we carry out diagnosis and referrals to other health units”, says the nurse. She also highlights the referral of the psychological part. “We do the reception, in which we try to know the needs of the community and we also take care of continuing education”.
Expanded actions
According to the professor of the Medicine course at Bahiana, Eliana de Paula, the school has the pleasure of being next to the Parish of Brotas, in the coordination and effective participation of the fair. “Gradually, the actions have been expanded over the years. This year, we carried out activities in the area of health promotion, disease prevention, assistance and rehabilitation”.
The vice president of LACM and student of the 8th semester of the Medicine course at Bahiana, Luísa Guedes, explains that every year the league is invited to join the fair and promote activities in education and health. “It is very important to encourage students, especially beginners, to have contact with this community, where our main patients from the Teaching-Care Clinic of the Bahiana. We call everyone to think about education, health and self-care”.
In its 13th edition, the fair totaled 760 assistances, including procedures, activities and consultations, and reached the screening of approximately 134 people. During the event, there were also musical presentations by students from Colégio Manoel Vitorino and by the student of the 7th semester of the Medicine course at Bahiana Mario Guillermo. The fair had the support of the Sanitary Surveillance, the Sanitary District, the Humberto Castro Lima Hospital, the District of Brotas, Sesc and the Bahia Hairdressers School.
