16th JOBA

Once again, the Dentistry Day of Bahiana (JOB) surprises and successfully materializes. During the 19th and 20th of May, more than 700 people, including students and registered professionals, professors and students who were part of the organizing committee, gathered at the Cabula Academic Unit to participate in an intense program of lectures, round tables and short courses. In all, 340 works were presented, including free themes, demonstration tables and panels. In parallel to the 16th JOBA, the 1st Bahia Aesthetic Dentistry Meeting, the 6th Meeting of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology and the X Meeting of Former Students of Bahiana.

As every year, JOBA honors a teacher in the house who stands out in the course. This year the honoree was Professor Fernando Bastos Pereira Junior of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology discipline, for his services to the scientific dentistry community in the state of Bahia and, above all, for his dedication and commitment to Bahiana. He was highlighted during the closing ceremony that also brought together the Dean of Research and Innovation of the Bahiana, Atson Fernandes, the coordinator of the Dentistry course, Prof. Dr. Urbino Tunes, the president of the faculty organizing committee, Andrea Cavalcanti, and the chairperson of the JOBA student organizing committee, Amanda Brandão.

"JOBA is always planned so that we have good quality in the scientific program and in the works presented and this is what guarantees the event's success. So, we had full rooms, we surpassed the number of subscribers, there were 681 people, and in the number of works , 340, that is, almost 100 more works than last year", says Andrea Cavalcanti. Among the novelties of this edition, it highlights Dentistry in the Jungle, which was a complementary activity to JOBA Comunidade, which every year carries out activities related to prevention in public health. The event was promoted by the Academic League Bahiana of Education in Oral Health (LABESB), under the teaching coordination of professors Antonio Pitta and Ana Carla Robatto and involved oral hygiene activities carried out by the students of the Dentistry course at Bahiana. "The idea was to show how it is possible to carry out some actions in dentistry related to prevention, which can even be done in the jungle, in an indigenous tribe and in a campaign. Everything was very well received by the children living in the Cabula neighborhood", explains Andrea.

According to the course coordinator, Urbino Tunes, all expectations were exceeded and the event highlighted the discussion of current issues. "We had an expectation that was surpassed both in the number of participants and in the number of works registered. In the scientific program, we also had very interesting topics such as the use of dental stem cells in the creation of other tissues and the work of various specialties in promoting orofacial harmonization. So, it was a success, everyone was very happy, the organizing committee did an excellent job."

For the 10th semester student of Dentistry Eduardo Dias, one of the differentials of the course at Bahiana is the hourly load of classes and the resources offered by the institution. "Like them, there is JOBA, which is a great event, where we can improve our knowledge. It also provides opportunities for all students". He explains that the diversity of programming allows students who have no affinity with academic production to participate by attending lectures or short courses and that students who are interested in scientific production also find space to present their work. Eduardo presented the free theme "Child Bruxism Case Report" which he researched at the Dental Care Teaching Clinic at Bahiana.
Both Eduardo and his colleague Caroline Dayube were assertive when evaluating the organization of the event. "The organization was the highlight this year because the scientific grid maintained the standard of excellence as always, but this time, the organization was impeccable," said Caroline. Close to graduating, the student says she is very interested in pediatric dentistry, but she hasn't decided on her choice yet, preferring to try out the job market before deciding. "JOBA can add a lot to the training process of dentistry students because it brings lectures, technology and the latest in the area. They are professionals from abroad and here who come to share new knowledge and this also helps in deciding which career to pursue ". She participated in lectures, presented the free theme "Prenatal Dental in Pregnancy" and the demonstrative table on absolute and relative isolation in pediatric dentistry.

Impressed by the quality of the event, the teacher who has just arrived at the Bahiana, Mariana Basilio, saw JOBA as the result of the institution's quality. "I'm very impressed with everything I've seen. The experience of being at Bahiana it's been wonderful for me and it was no different with JOBA. The quality of the work, both from the point of view of the evaluation for them to be approved and in the presentation, the students dedicated themselves, committed themselves to give their best, this is a characteristic of the house and I think this is the result of the quality of the teaching that is conducted here at Bahiana. I was very happy with everything I saw", says Mariana, who worked as an evaluator teacher at JOBA.

The participation of former students was also remarkable with the holding of the X Meeting of Dentistry Past Students at Bahiana. The program included the themes "Prevention in Pediatric Dentistry: from private practice to social projects", presented by Fernanda Mamede Oliveira Pinto; "Evolution of non-surgical periodontal therapy: scientific evidence and clinical management", by Ana Luisa Teixeira Meira; "Implantodontics", with Clarissa Góes and "Before flying, dive: entrepreneurship in Dentistry", with Bruno Vinícius de Oliveira Gomes.

"JOBA this year couldn't be better organized, prettier, happier and it's amazing how each journey has something new to add. It's always good to come back and know that we graduate, we grow and when we come back we don't everything is the same, everything is much better", declares former student Humberto Lucas Bastos de Souza, president of the student committee of the 15th JOBA (2016).

Amanda Brandão says that the work of organizing JOBA began in November 2016. "We were successful with the supporters, we received a lot of praise from the participants, so it is a feeling of accomplishment and gratitude, because it was hard work and knowing that we made it pleasing everyone is very good. One of the differentials of this journey was having mixed students from all semesters – from the 1st to the 10th – and the younger ones surpassed expectations, got involved, created friendships and really dedicated themselves".
