Full auditorium, prominent speakers and a “I want more” atmosphere. That's how the Pre-Journey of Dentistry at Bahiana (pre-joba) which took place on April 5th, at the Cabula Academic Unit and brought together students and professors of the course. The event that precedes Joba every year, this time had as guests the master and doctorate from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Paula Mathias, and the master and doctoral candidate in clinic, at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), Lucas Esteves who presented complementary lectures with speeches on the theme “Orofacial harmonisation: dentistry beyond the smile”.

Paula Mathias' class addressed the aesthetic aspects of dentistry and Lucas Esteves spoke about the surgical point of view. The coordinator of the Dentistry course at the Bahiana, Prof. Dr. Urbino Tunes, the coordinator of the Joba 2017 teaching committee, Prof. Andréa Cavalcanti, and the coordinator of the student committee, Amanda Brandão Soares, a 7th semester student of Dentistry. Joba is now open for registration and will be held on May 18th and 19th, at the Cabula Academic Unit.

According to Andréa Cavalcanti, the Pré-Joba is the time to present and inform participants about the scientific grid for the next journey. “Pre-Joba always has to bring a current theme that is multidisciplinary, because this is the face of the journey: integration and interdisciplinarity”. According to the professor, currently, it has been noticed in dentistry that most of the treatment is effectively completed with integration. “So, Pré-Joba's idea was to bring this interaction and present dentistry as it is today: far beyond smiling. It's a dentistry that is integrated with the face, with the personality and, therefore, we brought two names that complement each other in this sense”.

According to Andréa Cavalcanti, Joba 2017 brings topics of great importance such as the use of stem cells in Dentistry, great news in the field of aesthetic dentistry, with a meeting specially dedicated to the topic, with the participation of two guest speakers and addressing also peri-implant cosmetic surgery.

A member of the student committees since her 3rd graduation semester, Amanda Brandão Soares says that, this year, the group's differential was the participation of students from all semesters in the committee. According to her, "the elaboration of the scientific grid was discussed at the end of 2016, when the students took what each one would like to see on the journey and, in a very uniform way, we managed to please all tastes".

Amanda says that the work of organizing Joba 2017 has been carried out by the commission since November of last year and has a committed participation of 37 students. The commission hopes to receive around 600 applicants this year, including students, professors, researchers and professionals in the field of oral health.

“We've been holding this event for 16 years, which is already traditional and large, and is now considered an academic congress and, perhaps, one of the largest in the country. It is an achievement of the Dentistry academic of the Bahiana, but brings together students from several other institutions. It has a very good scientific program, with news every year”, highlights Prof. Urbino Tunes, who mentioned, among the news, the participation of the Brazilian Army with a dentistry activity in the jungle, using a structure that will be installed on the premises of the Cabula Academic Unit.
