Elevador Lacerda, a tourist spot in Salvador, received purple lighting last Tuesday (21), to attract the population about epilepsy. The action will end next Sunday (26), when Purple Day - World Epilepsy Awareness Day is celebrated.

Due to the date, the Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública promoted the “Living with Epilepsy Symposium”, on the last 23rd of March. On the occasion, physicians, patients, academics and professionals specialized in the area participated in lectures involving activities to promote the health of patients with epilepsy.

Purple Day - World Epilepsy Awareness Day

Purple Day was created in 2008 by Canadian Cassidy Megan, then nine years old, with support from the Nova Scotia Epilepsy Association (EANS).

The girl chose the color purple to symbolize epilepsy, as it is the color of the lavender flower, often associated with loneliness, which represents the feelings of isolation that many people with the disease experience.

Bahiana offers a teaching-care and multiprofessional outpatient clinic especially aimed at patients with epilepsy, through the Unified Health System (SUS).
