"Distance Education - Some Reflections" was the lecture presented in real time by Professor Luiz Roberto de Oliveira, directly from the Federal University of Ceará, marking the inauguration of the newest videoconference room at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, which took place last Thursday, March 2, at the Academic Unit Brotas.

On the occasion, the proposal of the Technologist Course in Health Informatics was also presented, an initiative of the Center for Distance Education of the institution (NEAD). In her presentation, the coordinator of the nucleus, Prof. Marta Silva Meneses, highlighted the course's innovative possibilities for the job market that is receptive to the new professional profile. Still within the segment of digital education focused on health, she also addressed as perspectives the bachelor's degree in Biomedical Informatics and specializations in the area, as well as computer curriculum components for undergraduate courses at Bahiana.

The moment consolidated another stage of the institution's digital education segment, which already has a background of more than 10 years of activities, from the implementation of the Virtual Learning Environment and, later, the participation of the institution - one of the few private ones - in the Telemedicine University Network (RUTE), including working in Special Interest Groups (SIGs), together with higher education institutions across the country.

"We are bringing a course to train technologists in an area that lacks professionals who deal with health-related technology. We propose a learning methodology that is also an innovation, as we are going to work with the Problem-Based Learning method, which brings more interactivity in the sharing of knowledge", says the Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Education at Bahiana, Prof. Maria de Lourdes Freitas Gomes. According to her, "the great challenge for the Bahiana, which is a health training institution, is to make this combination of information technology and health in a way that contemplates the new professional profile that the market so much needs".

Tribute

The newest videoconferencing room from Bahiana takes its name from the NEAD coordinator, Prof. Marta Silva Menezes. "Each time I admire more the ability of Professor Marta to bring together and share her creativity and knowledge with all of us. I feel very happy to be part of this work with her that has brought and is bringing a very large technological evolution to the Bahiana”, declared the manager of the Educational Technologies Development Center at Bahiana (CEDETE), Prof. Antonio Carlos Costa.

"All this here represents a great advance. With the resources available today, it is very important to promote education for the proper use of technologies in the health area", declared the honoree, who also pointed out distance education as a "window that opens up countless possibilities, breaking borders, expanding possibilities of training in support of the health area. Being at a distance does not necessarily mean being far away. The use of student involvement strategies can make this individual feel that he belongs to the institution", she explains, emphasizing that the pedagogical methodology will follow the institutional principles of training a professional with a humanistic vision.
