To receive the accreditation seal, educational institutions have proven excellence in different aspects involving educational requirements, teacher profile, quality of management and available infrastructure, among other points. The evaluation process involved everything from filling out an online questionnaire to on-site visits, with the participation of directors, teachers, students and technicians from the assessed entity, representatives of the community, the local health network and the team of evaluators. The certification is valid for three years, at which time the courses will be re-evaluated.

Of the 19 accredited courses, six are located in states in the Southeast Region (32%). In second place are the Northeast and South regions, with five courses accredited in each. From the point of view of the administrative management profile, the majority (68%) is private. Regarding the operating time, 53% of the schools evaluated have between 47 and 63 years of pedagogical-institutional experience and 42%, between 10 and 20 years of creation. Only one of the institutions has existed for less than 10 years.

“We have an extensive interpretation of our main missions, provided for in Law 3.268/57, that ensuring the ethical performance of medicine by all means at our disposal is also contributing to the training of future medical professionals. It is with full awareness of this duty that we take advantage of the unique opportunity of having a proficient team available for the evaluation of medical courses”, said the president of CFM, Carlos Vital, in an article published on the Council's website.

“This CFM/ABEM certification is very important for our school. It attests to the quality of our Medicine course and includes us in a small group of medicine courses that will soon also have an international certification, as the Medical Schools Accreditation System (SAEME) has already started the process of international recognition of its accreditation”, declares the dean of the Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani. According to her, the certification also brings benefits to students from Bahiana, as it opens up possibilities for internships in important institutions. “For our students, this means the opportunity to carry out internships and residencies in other countries, such as the USA, which will only accept interns and residents who come from internationally certified courses”.
