In January 2017, the beaches of São Tomé de Paripe and Ondina will receive another edition of the ParaPraia Project, which will start its activities at São Tomé de Paripe Beach on January 7th and 8th and, from January 14th, in Ondina Beach, in front of the IBR.

The program is promoted by the City of Salvador, through the Sustainable City Department (Secis) and consists of offering an assisted bathing in the sea for bathers with mobility difficulties, in addition to other activities such as sitting volleyball, circuit, basketball in the water, among others.

In December, the Physiotherapy course at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública started the first phase of training volunteers to join the project through a public notice to apply for vacancies, with the aim of promoting greater safety for bathers and better preparation of volunteer monitors.

“This year, the project will encompass Physical Education, Psychology, Nursing, Medicine and Physiotherapy courses at Bahiana, whose training of volunteers lasted three days in which the importance of listening and guidance to bathers was addressed, in addition to training to support the assisted”, explains the project's volunteer coordinator and teacher of the Physiotherapy course at Bahiana, Luciana Oliveira.

In the next edition of ParaPraia, the project will have the support of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, Salvador Shopping, the Sustainable City Secretariat (Secis) and Braskem.
