The Physiotherapy course at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública was invited by the Integrated Occupational Health Care Service of the State Health Department to develop an Extension Program in Physiotherapy in Occupational Health, at SESAB.

The proposal aims to expand education. For the teacher of the Physiotherapy course Rachel Trinchão, this is an important service for workers and relevant for students because it allows them to experience the area.

According to her, initially the students undergo a physical therapy assessment, accompanied by the physical therapist and the responsible teacher at the Bahiana. “After that, they accompany employees in various sectors of SESAB”, he explains.

During the program, future physiotherapists have access to employee reports when they return from sick leave. Students also undergo ergonomic assessment and the practice of gymnastics at work, either individually or in groups.

According to Maria Joseane Freitas, a student of the physiotherapy course, the extension has contributed positively to her learning. “I am very happy to receive positive feedback from the workers and the satisfaction with the activities carried out”, said the student, for whom the activity adds both professional and personal experience.
