A Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública hosted, from October 27th to 29th, the X Northeastern Meeting of Physiotherapy in Women's Health (X Enfism) and the III Northeastern Meeting of Physiotherapy in Men's Health (III Enfish) whose activities took place at the Cabula Academic Unit. In celebration of the 10th edition of Enfism, for the first time, the International Congress of Physiotherapy in Pelviperineology (CONFISP) with the participation of speakers from other countries.

The three meetings were an initiative of the Bahiana in partnership with the Pelvic Floor Care Center (CAAP). This was the second time that the institution received the Enfism whose 5th edition was held in 2011.

The extensive program had its official opening on the night of October 27th and featured the presentation of the chamber group Quarteto Carybé, part of the Neojiba project, performing pieces that are part of the formation catalog of a traditional string quartet, as well as dedicated arrangements to the universe of popular music, highlighting northeastern composers.

The ceremony was directed by the president of X Enfism, III ENFISH and I CONFISP, Prof. Dr. Patrícia Lordêlo, also general coordinator of the CAAP and had a board composed by the dean of Bahiana, Prof. Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, for the coordinator of People Development, Prof. Luiza Ribeiro, for Prof. Socorro Barbosa, from the State University of Paraíba, for the invited speakers, Marta Jerez, specialist in Pelviperineology and post rehabilitation -surgical in childhood, woman and man –L'Amisek y Parnasse deux Alice. Brussels, Belgium and Simone Botelho, member of the board of the Brazilian Association of Physiotherapy in Women's Health – ABRAFISM. Cleber Sady, president of the Regional Council of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy (Crefito), Cristina Brasil, physiotherapist and representative of the CAAP, and the Physiotherapy student at the Bahiana, Janine dos Santos Ferreira, representing the students at the congress.

In her speech, the dean of Bahiana congratulated the work of the organizing committee for the success of the event. "It is a great pleasure to be hosting these three congresses here at Bahiana. We are aware of the commission's efforts and how hard it is to organize an event of this dimension”, declared Dr. Maria Luisa, making the opening of the program official.

Prof. Socorro Barbosa highlighted the support of the Bahiana in other editions of Enfism and recalled that it was in Paraíba where it all began. “It's good to see how this event has grown and where it has gone. We started there at the State University of Paraíba, where we held the 1st, 2nd and 9th Enfism and always counting on the support of Bahiana".

For Prof. Patrícia Lordêlo, the event's success does not only bring gains for the Northeast, but also for Brazil. “There is a preconceived idea that the best research centers are in the South and, mainly, in the Southeast. However, with this event, we show that the Northeast has people and institutions referenced inside and outside Brazil, such as the Bahiana together with the CAAP, the Federal University of Pernambuco and the State University of Campina Grande”. The coordinator of CAAP also emphasizes that the center is the first in Brazil to work in an interdisciplinary way with attention focused on pelvic floor disorders.

About I CONFISP, Patrícia says that the idea came up in celebration of the 10th edition of Enfism and it makes the discussion even broader. “The importance of holding a meeting on pelviperineology and not on women's health is because we also pay attention to men and children in relation to other dysfunctions that are not just linked to women's health. We tried to add this way and, as we were already doing an established event, the need arose to create a large-scale congress, thus giving rise to CONFISP”.

The evening ended with a tribute to teachers Maria de Lourdes Oliveira, Socorro Barbosa and Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, followed by a cocktail in the foyer of the Library of Bahiana.

Agenda

With the participation of speakers from several Brazilian states, Spain and Germany, the program had as its theme “Science, technology and innovation in clinical practice: an interdisciplinary view of pelviperineology”. Throughout the 27th, a pre-congress workshop was held with the participation of ten speakers. In the following days, participants were able to see topics related to science, innovation and technology aimed at physiotherapy in the treatment of disorders and pathologies.
