Canta Bahiana celebrates six years changing lives

Share

“The experience, over these six years of choir, taught me to get along better and understand the differences between people. It's also good because sometimes we get there sad or overwhelmed and when we start to sing, everything gets better”. The report is from the planning analyst (ASPLAN - Bahiana) Maristela Silva, who, together with colleagues and conductor Carlos Veiga, celebrates six years of Coral Canta Bahiana.

The conductor says that the idea of creating a choir for the institution came from the Human Resources manager, Telma Bastos, as an activity of the Quality of Life Program at Bahiana and he points out: “I work with singing, but I am very concerned about the quality of life of people, both individually and within the institution. The main objective is to make people feel good”. He explains that the selection of the repertoire is also designed with this purpose and involves songs that bring positive ideals and values that converge with those of the Bahiana. “A lot of people think that the performance is the great moment of the choir and I try to break that a little, making people feel pleasure in singing and that, being in rehearsals, they can have fun, be emotional and learn”.

From these years as a chorister, Maristela highlights the presentations the group made at the events of the Bahiana, such as the Scientific and Cultural Exhibition, the Pedagogical Forum, Novos da Bahiana, academic journeys and special dates, as well as incursions in other institutions. She highlights the performance of Coral Canta Bahiana at the Federal Court of Bahia where a repertoire of the Beatles was presented.

The youngest of the class, Igor Fernando Modesto Garcia, a graduate student in Health Technologies at Bahiana, has been in the choir for two years and says that music has always been part of his life. “The choir, especially the conductor, has very good energy, it's like therapy, it gives us a feeling of well-being. Sometimes we have a difficult day and, after singing, we feel good about that magical thing that music provides”.

Over these six years of activities, the choir has had different formations and has performed in numerous places such as the City Council of Salvador, Children's Day at Humberto Castro Lima Hospital, CAAP's anniversary, at the Academic Unit Brotas and some meetings such as the Meeting of Choirs of the Federal Justice of Bahia. Currently, the choir has 20 participants and is open to new interested parties. To sign up, just look for the Benefits Sector, in the HR department of Bahiana. Rehearsals always take place on Tuesdays, at 17 pm, at the Academic Unit of Brotas.
