Research, innovation, art, culture, sport and leisure. This powerful mix of knowledge areas guided the 16th Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana, held on October 6th and 7th, at the Cabula Academic Unit. The first day of activities included the VI Researchers Forum and XIII PIBIC Scientific Initiation Journey, when dozens of short courses and workshops were held. The second day of MCC brought together a series of activities and dynamics with the participation of undergraduate and graduate students from Bahiana and from other teaching units, in addition to invited groups.

The ceremony that opened the activities on October 7th took place in Auditorium 1 of the Convention Center of the Bahiana and began with a special performance by the Canta Baiana choir, which is celebrating six years of activities.

"We are here today to celebrate our scientific productions, our skills, our creativity, in addition to being able to have a day of interaction involving everyone with spaces of art and knowledge", said the dean of Bahiana, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani. According to her, the Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana has grown over time and has added other initiatives such as the Researchers Forum, the Extension Exhibition and the Scientific Initiation Day, “because we believe it is very important that all our students can experience the scientific method and, therefore, with culture and art, because that way we train in a better way, looking at the other in a better way, being responsible for our place in the world."

The integration of people from all communities in the Bahiana it was also highlighted by the People Development coordinator, Luiza Ribeiro. "The Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana, since its inception, 16 years ago, it has always aimed to integrate people and their production, in order to show what each one does and how the product of this performance serves the other, which is one of our values, the serve. So, the committee includes people from the human resources sector who bring the demands of our employees and, based on them, we structure specific activities that seek to improve their quality of life. It is another institutional event in which all communities – academic and administrative – participate together, in collaboration."

To the Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies at Bahiana, Prof. Maria de Lourdes Freitas Gomes, “the Scientific and Cultural Exhibition of Bahiana has been increasingly consolidated as a moment of integration between teaching, research and extension, which, in fact, is the tripod of Bahiana and it is the teaching tripod. It promotes another integration between all elements of the institution, from technical collaborators to professors and students, and all of them also get closer to the communities surrounding the institution that are present here and who learn and teach through their popular culture”.

Afro dance was also present, taking the enchantment with the choreography “Olhares de Oya”, performed by the dance group of the movement research group of the Dance School of the Cultural Foundation of the State of Bahia (Funceb). The nursing student from Bahiana and a member of the Tiago Brito group, he highlighted the institution's social responsibility initiative by receiving powdered milk as a subscription to be donated to the HTLV Center. “I always thought of dance and art as a link with health. I'm still going to get it inside of me. With today's choreography I managed to draw a relationship between the Bahiana and the orisha Iansã. She is a mother, warrior, daring, she has a lot of strength, she fights and ends up winning and I see this in Bahiana, because it sustains itself precisely on this pillar of being independent. I also correlated with the initiative that benefits the HTLV Center to serve low-income mothers and this action ends up taking this big mother to them, which is the Bahiana".

"I think this initiative by the Bahiana to bring people from outside to enter this universe here, which ends up being a more health-oriented universe, and so we are bringing this other language that is with the body, with health, but in a different way and it is a very rich junction ”, said Roquidélia Santos, the group's teacher and advisor.

As in all editions of the MCC, tickets were drawn for scientific events that included the works "Elaboration of Educational Materials Written in Adults for Health: a narrative review" by Physiotherapy student Eduarda Luna Oliveira da Silva and teacher Sandra Porciúncula as an advisor, in the oral communication modality and “Sexuality in adolescence: the perception of parents of adolescents with Down Syndrome” by the student of the Physiotherapy course, Ingrid Saane de Souza Barbosa, coordinated by Mayana de Azevedo Bião de Souza, teacher of the Physiotherapy course and Lígia Marques Vilas Boas, pedagogical advisor of the Institutional Program for Teacher Development (PROIDD).

At the end of the morning, the audience of the auditorium was led by the Bando Encantarias de Educação Popular em Saúde to the external area of the Academic Unit Brotas to visit spaces for scientific production, art, sport and leisure.

“This year, we have something new, the Popular Education and Health Tent of Bahiana, coordinated by CAJU and the Candeal Program in conjunction with the Academic Leagues: Harm Reduction (LARD), Study in Public Health (LABESC), Sexuality and Gender (LASG) and Racial Relations (LARR), holding conversation circles with young visitors ”, says the coordinator of the 16th MCC and pedagogical advisor of PROIDD, Lígia Vilas Boas.
