“Art is life itself happening. For health professionals, sharing art is developing other senses, other ways of seeing the world that are not just the issue of disease and health”. The reflection is from the dean of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, Dr. Maria Luisa Carvalho Soliani, who attended the 5th edition of August of the Arts, in the Academic Unit Brotas. The event is promoted annually and was held on August 23 and 25 at the Academic Unit Brotas and, on the 30th, at the Cabula Academic Unit.

The “Agosto das Artes” is an initiative of the Psychopedagogical Care Center (NAPP) that brings together teachers, students and partners from Bahiana with the aim of promoting art within the academic environment through workshops, music and other artistic exhibitions. On the 25th, at the Academic Unit Brotas, the program had several artistic manifestations by the students and a presentation by Coral Canta Bahiana.

“NAPP continues with the idea of promoting art and culture in the academic environment. This year, we have the effective participation of students in organizing the event, showing that we have been able to achieve our purpose since we thought of Agosto das Artes, which is precisely the involvement, participation and initiative of the students in this space”, explains Angélica Mendes , coordinator of the NAPP.

For Khatarina Correia, a 9th semester student of the Medicine course, participating in the event revealed a gift she did not know, photography. And, because he was on vacation, on an exchange, he had the opportunity to get to know a bit of Southeast Asian culture. The student visited Indonesia and was able to perceive the difficult cultural reality of a very poor population, which uses religion to make a living.

“I saw all that poverty, that suffering and I portrayed it in art form in my photos, precisely to show the hidden side of that population. I used the widest range of colors possible in the photos, taken from my cell phone, and I could see that, when photographing the women, I saw flowers through them”, he points out.

According to Prof. Luiza Ribeiro, coordinator of People Development at Bahiana, with actions like this, which NAPP has been developing for 16 years, the institution creates a differential for the academic environment.

“NAAP enables this combination of technical learning, content with experience and the subjective. August of the Arts, together with the Scientific Exhibition, the Leagues and other actions proliferated in the courses show that we are growing and managing to make this a daily reality in the Bahiana and no longer a special event”, he points out.

To the planning analyst at Bahiana, Maristela Silva, art is a stimulus for everything in people's lives. "THE Bahiana has this enriching initiative that allows the interaction of the collaborator, teachers and students through art. It is a grandiose event that greatly values the human being”, he concludes.

The 5th semester student of the Medicine course Debora Castro emphasizes the importance of the initiative of Bahiana in bringing to the academic environment events that enable students to show their talents. “Disseminating our artistic and cultural skills, extra-college is gratifying”, he declares.

Cabula Academic Unit

Dramaticity and lots of music marked the closing of Agosto das Artes, on the 30th, at the Cabula da Academic Unit Bahiana.

In addition to the exhibition of photographs and handicrafts made by students and partners of the School, the dancers of Balé Teatro Castro Alves (BTCA) presented a dance composition. Singer and composer Marcio Mello was also present, singing and delighting everyone. “The artistic eye is what determines everything in life, it is what allows us to see life differently. When we bring this vision to a college, a place that will graduate people, we have to have this interaction."
