“This first forum focused on promoting health and quality of life, aims to objectively discuss primary care with perspectives on physical activity. Today, we debate a lot the idea of being physically active, of sedentary behavior and we need to bring these discussions to the surface for peers in physical education in order to work in communities", says Clarcson Plácido, coordinator of the Physical Education course and coordinator of the 23st Physical Activity Forum held on July XNUMX, at the Academic Unit Cabula da Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública.

The program brought together students, professionals in the field of Physical Education and related areas in order to promote a broad discussion about the approaches taken in basic health care programs, involving physical activity programs. During the event, the Academic League in Physical Activity and Health (LAAFS) was officially presented, the first in the Physical Education course that has already been working in some extension projects and is also open to other institutions. Throughout the day, lectures, symposia and conferences were given with the participation of teachers and professors, including Professor Lavínia Boaventura, coordinator of the Candeal Project, and Prof. Antônio Maurício Brasil representing the Vida Plena Community Complex (CCVP).

"The forum is very important, as we know the work that has been developed in the Bahiana related to the Physical Education course, which is a new course and this symposium reinforces the importance of encouraging physical activity at the population level”, explains Prof. Dr. Francisco José Godim Pitanga who opened the forum giving a lecture on 'Epidemiological bases of the physical activity/health relationship'.

According to Prof. M. Débora Santos, pedagogical supporter of Fiocruz's multidisciplinary family health residency, in the area of Physical Education, there is still a lack of discussions and reflections about health. “This forum is a space where we manage to bring together people interested in the subject and who can be a differential when they start acting. If we think about undergraduate students, for example, who have access to events like this, they will definitely become distinguished professionals in the market in the future”, explains the master who gave a lecture on 'Body Practices and Primary Health Care: perspectives and challenges '.

"In addition to encouraging the student to seek knowledge for their professional and personal training, the forum brings what already exists or does not exist in terms of production in relation to the topic addressed, so that the student can get involved in our projects, both in extension and of research, therefore, in the Bahiana, we are not only concerned with the classroom, but we are dealing with a process that involves teaching/learning related to extension and research”, concludes Prof. Me João Franco Lima, professor of the Physical Education course at Bahiana who gave a lecture on Dilemmas and Possibilities of Physical Education Professional Performance in the CAPS System.

The president of LAAFS, Rebecca Albuquerque, emphasizes that the league encompasses Physical Education as a whole and not just fitness, and the forum exposed discussions bringing together professionals in the field, bringing relevant themes to contribute to the professional in the field. “The forum brought a lot of information for our training in terms of health promotion, especially in primary care”, he reports.

“I think it only added knowledge, as Physical Education is also interconnected with the health area and many people are unaware of this. The forum opened my mind to new ideas because I am an instructor at an academy and all the issues discussed here helped a lot in my understanding”, explains Ariel Barros, a 5th semester student of Physical Education at Unijorge.

Candeal Project

Within the curriculum of the Physical Education course, as well as other courses at the School, there is a curricular component called Interprofessional Practice in Health, which aims to enable the experience in multidisciplinary teams, developing skills for interdisciplinary and interprofessional work with Health Education groups in the community.

This curricular component is within a social responsibility program of the Bahiana, a pioneering project in educational institutions, called the Candeal Program, which makes students from the different courses of Bahiana act directly in communities through partnerships with different social facilities. In the case of the Physical Education course, students are in groups developed in the community of Amazonas, located in Cabula and in the neighborhood of Candeal, in Brotas. The students, in addition to developing activities related to the object of study in which they are part, aiming for the community to become a little more active, plan and execute interprofessional activities together with the multidisciplinary team with a focus on self-care, health promotion and quality of life. of the population involved. The participation of Physical Education students also contributes to the formation of others from a different perspective on physical health.
