Share

Research, extension, art and science were the verve of the 8th Nursing Conference of Bahiana which this year had as its central theme "Being ethical in contemporaneity". The event, which also included the III Meeting of Nursing Graduates and the II Research Seminar GEPEN/NUPEIS, took place on May 11 and 12, at the Cabula Academic Unit. "In the previous semester, we made visits to the classrooms, we raised, together with the students, themes that disturbed them and, from then on, the journey was designed with the workshops dealing with themes that were diverse, but using them as a guideline the professional act, how we act in our world today and how nursing offers itself in this. In the discussions, there was always a concern about how health is promoted today and the conduct of health professionals in view of these demands of society and, then, we came to the understanding that the theme was ethics in contemporaneity, which is absolutely in line with what we are living in the world and in Brazil", says the coordinator of the Nursing course, Prof. Cristiane Magali Freitas dos Santos.

The opening conference was given by the doctor, philosopher, psychologist, master and doctor in Education, André Luiz Peixinho. In his speech, the speaker addressed the concept of morals and ethics and the different circumstances in which the subject will be led to decisions that may ask for the value of life to come before ethical standards.

"In terms of knowledge production, we are going to work on the base, expanding and reinforcing ethics in everything the student does. Because ethics begins with personal ethics, in which we act without people seeing us, censoring us, charging. So that he can take this sense to wherever he is, as if he were always with someone looking at him. And this theme is current for our country, for our moment and also current in our training, in professionals of nursing", declared Prof. Robélia Dórea da Silva, general coordinator of the journey.

The opening moment also featured a presentation by members of the Terapeutas do Riso group, Dalvinha Gomes and Edmar Dias, who showed the work developed by the entity whose mission is to contribute to the healing process of hospitalized children and adults, taking the focus away from pain and alleviating the suffering of hospitalization.

During the first day of the journey, several activities were carried out, such as a round table on the Systematization of Nursing Care, a talk show on Palliative Support, in addition to workshops.

On Thursday, the works began with a presentation of the Ballet of Teatro Castro Alves, addressing the understanding of body language. “After defining the theme, there was also the certainty that we could not approach it in a merely technical, descriptive, theoretical way, but that it was necessary to bring other perspectives to this reflection. And then the issue of art arose and, therefore, we had in the program the presentation of the Ballet of the Castro Alves Theater (BTCA) with the theme of the moving body, the caring body and this ethics of perceiving the non-verbal language in care ”, explains Prof. Cristiane Magali.

The second day of the journey also included the II Research Seminar GEPEN/NUPEIS, with the theme "Ethics, Bioethics and Statistics in Health Research." curriculum, not only for the transmission of knowledge but also for the creation of knowledge, and research takes place precisely in this context. It is another instrument to foster creation within the course. And events such as the 8th Nursing Journey of Bahiana arrive in this context, from the perspective of thinking about research, the extension and creation that is what we call innovation", declared the Research and Innovation coordinator of the Bahiana, Prof. Atson Fernandes.

An example of how to Bahiana has been promoting and fostering in the student the importance of research, the 7th semester student, Laila Farias, says that her awakening as a researcher took place right at the beginning of the course. "My career as a researcher started from the beginning of the course, when a colleague entered the room to show her poster to the teacher. And I, right in the 1st semester, went to a nursing congress, where I saw some students presenting papers and I put it up. as a goal for me, that I would be, in the following year, presenting my work at that congress. And, in the following year, I was there presenting my work on Osteoporosis", says Laila, adding that this was only possible due to the support and guidance by Prof. Cristiane Libório who accepted to guide a 1st semester undergraduate. Today, Laila is a PIBIC fellow at FioCruz, where she participates in a research project on leishmaniasis.

On the theme of the journey, the student states that "the institution provides the basis for us to be able to respond in an adequate way in the institutions where we go, through practices, internships, which start from the beginning of graduation and I think it matches the reality of that that we learn in the classroom. Here, inside the institution, we have security, we are in a "perfect world" and outside we are put to the test to really test our knowledge, but, in addition to the theoretical basis that we have, there are values of each one that are put to the test when we are in the field or even when we are developing research activities, based on the expectations that are expected of us and the goals we want to achieve".

Another high point of the program was the III Meeting of Graduates of the Nursing course, with the participation of former students from the Bahiana. "The program also includes a meeting of graduates that has been going on for three years, with the participation of former students who are already in the job market and are professionals who stand out in these spaces. They come to bring the beauty of the testimonies because it is It is important for those who are graduating to listen to those who are so close to them, who have gone through what they are going through and how their experience in the world of work is", explains Prof. Cristiane Magali.
