XNUMXst Psychology and Medicine Meeting - A possible dialogue

Share

“Since psychologists decided to enter hospitals, which have always been a space of medical hegemony, they needed to be aware of a series of issues that are involved, which is essential for there to be a dialogue. It is important that each one knows their role within this context and that there is space for both, as they are complementary knowledge subject to dialogue”, declares psychologist Soraya Carvalho, who participated as a speaker at the XNUMXst Psychology and Medicine Meeting – A possible dialogue, performed by the School Bahiana of Public Medicine, on the 6th and 7th of May, at the Cabula Academic Unit.

During the program that brought together physicians, psychologists and students from the Medicine and Psychology courses at Bahiana, relevant themes common to both areas were debated, from different perspectives related to the human being in the face of death. Among the themes, questions about medicine and death, ethics in the dying process, psychoanalysis, mourning and death, among others, were discussed.

“About three years ago, the idea of this meeting emerged from a research group on psychology in the hospital field, psychoanalytically based psychology. It is a challenge to sustain the discourse in which a dialogue can be established in a retreat in the face of subjectivity with the doctors”, explains psychologist Me. Maria Constança Veloso Cajado, creator of the meeting and professor of the Psychology course.

According to Dr. Maria Livia Tourinho, the proposal for a dialogue between psychology and medicine is precisely related to the consideration of the differences between the two areas. “Even though they are two different areas, they address common issues. Usually people want to meet to reach a common point and we need to think of constructions that resolve these differences. My enthusiasm for this dialogue was precisely based on the consideration of differences, what kind of construction we can do together to solve problems, and these, yes, are common”, he explains.

“This meeting is a way of questioning, questioning, seeking ways and strategies to work as a team, challenging psychologists, physicians and students of medicine and psychology as health professionals, thinking about strategies for working as a team. Our challenge is to seek integrated actions aimed at interdisciplinarity in the School's health education", points out the coordinator of the Psychology course at the Bahiana, Prof. Sylvia Barreto.

Dr. Sérgio Zaidhaft, from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRG), explains that the idea of the event is to provide a dialogue between two very different points of knowledge, both of which deal with human beings with distinct characteristics and objects. “We have an ultimate goal, which is the human being, so the challenge is how to make this knowledge have some form of dialogue so that efforts can be combined in favor of people's health. It is a very big challenge, especially in the part of medicine, which has a hegemonically constituted knowledge, and in psychology, conversation, dialogue is sought”, he concludes.

“This meeting is interesting because the medical course still has that stereotype of superiority and, when it comes to treating and curing a human being, it goes far beyond, in other words, it encompasses a whole psychological issue,” says Manuela Cobas, a student at 3rd semester of the Psychology course at Bahiana.

The program of the meeting also included mini-courses with specific themes given by Dr. Maria Livia Tourinho and Dr. Sérgio Zaidhaft.
