“There is no way to get here and not feel grateful, I say for the approval of the residency in Onco Pediatrics at the Hospital do Câncer de Barretos, which is a SUS service reference in oncology worldwide, being a partner of the American hospital St. Judes. Doing residency in oncology for me has become a dream since the eighth semester of college”, says Rafaela Carvalho, a former student of the Nursing course at Bahiana.

According to Rafaela, thanks go to all undergraduate masters, and especially to the curricular internship teacher, Ronesca Dias, who always encouraged and encouraged her during a great period of weakness in which she even thought about giving up the course or not exercising. the profession.

“Today I am here on a new journey, living in Barretos – SP, and I carry not only my name, but also the name of my home state (Bahia), my masters and my undergraduate institution”, if.

Joelma Cristina da Costa Silva, also a former student of the Nursing course at Bahiana, reports that her life was never easy, as she was born into a very humble family that lived in a needy community in Bonfim, in Cidade Baixa and always studied at a public school and, at first, she saw the ambition of those around her as always limited to sameness.

“When I finished high school, I never thought I had reached my destination. Enter to join the Bahiana and the end of high school, a few years passed and the completion of the nursing technician course, with which I started to earn income. After much reflection and analysis of interests and opportunities, I chose the Bahiana for considering it the best Faculty of Nursing in Bahia”, he explains.

According to Joelma, when joining the Bahiana, a new challenge of attending a demanding college in academic training began, in parallel with the exercise of professional activity, which guaranteed their livelihood, having to deal with the accumulation of tasks, without weakening the daily study.

“I dared a lot during my academic life, overcoming my limits, as the common never attracted me. I never wanted to be the best student, but yes, the best I could be. I studied daily, tried to reactivate the Academic Directory, participated in the Academic League of First Aid (LAPS), extension activities (PET and ADAB) and presented works in scientific exhibitions, in addition to being a monitor of the Theoretical Foundations II discipline for three semesters and stimulating my class promoting the 1st Student Fair, which was held precisely in the community where I lived, I was even a class speaker”, she says.

However, graduation for her was never enough. Joelma, still on the academic path, realized the importance of continued, specialized study and decided to participate in the Nursing Residency selection.

“I chose to take tests at the Albert Einstein and Sírio-Libanês Hospitals Israelita, as there is nothing better than working in one of these institutions to further broaden my horizons and, on 24/02/2016, I received a call from the Institute of Education and Research from Sírio-Libanês to confirm my interest in Nursing Residency in Urgency and Emergency; a new and extraordinary journey to go”, he explains.

Today, a nurse is fully aware of the duty to provide assistance to human beings, both individually, in the family or in the community, in an integral and holistic way, developing, autonomously or as a team, activities of promotion, protection, prevention, rehabilitation and health recovery.

"I realize that, in the course of my existential journey, there may be stopping points, celebrations, achievements, failures, but the flow of life requires us to walk always and always, in search of our best, of the our progress (personal and professional), so the top is a utopia. A Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeno is the one who best translates the idea: 'Utopia is on the horizon. I take two steps closer, she takes two steps away. I walk ten steps and the horizon runs ten steps. No matter how far I walk, I will never reach it. What is utopia for? It's for that: so that I don't stop walking”, he concludes.

Luana Barbara Oliveira Nascimento

Luana Bárbara Oliveira Nascimento, a former student of the Nursing course at Bahiana, who joined the Multiprofessional Residency in health and professional health in the state of Bahia – Residency in Intensive Care Nursing, reports that, after completing the course, she sought to expand her knowledge through the residency. “I always brought an ideology that residency is the gold standard for specialization of a health care professional. THE Bahiana had a great contribution for me to achieve what I so longed for, I am proud to have been a student at the institution and I am immensely grateful to all the professors who were part of my training, always encouraging me to seek the best. I am a resident nurse in intensive care and, in my view, it is an extremely important area, as it prepares the professional to face any type of situation”, he concludes.
