On March 19, students from the specialization course "Mental Health and Primary Care" participated in the Human Rights and Mental Health meeting, at the Academic Unit Brotas. On the occasion, the workshops "Human Rights, Justice and Conflict Mediation" were held, given by Dr. Vera Leonelli and "Human Rights, Violence, Crime and Punishment with Dr. Marília Lomanto Veloso.

The event marks the inauguration of an agreement between the Bahiana and Juspopuli with the strategic insertion of the theme of human rights in health. The event integrates the activities of the specialization course Mental Health and Primary Care. “This agreement, which takes place through the Institutional Academic Relationship and Internationalization Center (REAII), will also be beneficial for the debate on Human Rights and health in other courses”, explains the coordinator of REAII, Maria Antonieta Araújo.

According to her, an extension course in Conflict Mediation is already planned. "Because conflict mediation is something that many health professionals deal with. Regardless of where they are, we are interested in bringing more this competence to our training".

Juspopuli Human Rights Office is a non-governmental organization whose mission is to contribute to the realization of human rights, through the democratization of Law and the promotion of access to Justice.

For the speaker and executive coordinator of Juspopuli, Dr. Vera Leonelli, the subject Human Rights must be present in the training of any professional. "Human rights training is essential not only for people working in the legal area, because the interest of human rights is the life and dignity of the person, so it has everything to do with mental and physical health, with education. I think it is a necessary training for all professionals. It is pertinent to make this association between human rights and health. From the beginning of the training of these professionals, more humanistic content, not just technical, should be worked on."

For student Samanta Dias, it's been a great experience to know how the theories worked in the classroom work in practice. "We're going to do a year of this post. It's another universe. We study psychology, from the perspective of the primary care network. Most of the themes are focused on the network, how this connection between theory and practice works. For me , it's a very new universe because I don't work on the net, but it's like we were debating, mental health is everywhere."
