"The student who chose to study Psychology at Bahiana will find a supportive academic environment for the construction of knowledge. Here, professors and students work together to build the course”, declared Sylvia Barreto, coordinator of the Psychology course, welcoming new students to the Bahiana, during the inaugural class of the course, which took place on January 29, at the Academic Unit Brotas.

The program brought together academics and professors from the Psychology course who, on the occasion, discussed the theme "Ethics and communication in psychology" with the objective of debating the use of new digital technologies (facebook, cell phones, applications and resources such as filming and recording voice) inappropriately, including the non-authorization of third parties.

To address the topic, Antonio Rogério Greenhalgh, psychologist and supervisor of the Regional Council of Psychology – Bahia Session (CRP-03), and Augusto Sergio São Bernardo, lawyer in the area of Human Rights and doctoral student in Education/UFBA, were invited.

According to Prof. Sylvia Barreto, the Psychology course at Bahiana is concerned with and committed to the ethics of professional psychologists, establishing a proposal to bring the student closer to the practice gradually, from the beginning.

“Internal and external activities are proposed and presented to facilitate the development of conceptual, procedural and attitudinal skills”, explains Barreto.

According to the lawyer Augusto Sérgio, discussing such complex and controversial topics requires a lot of dialogue and the institution's competence in raising issues that improve the training of students. “I congratulate the Bahia School of Medicine and Public Health for this initiative. The questions raised and the arguments defended prove the high level of education in psychology offered to students”, he concludes.
