On January 23rd and 24th, the second week of the ParaPraia Project took place, at Ondina beach. The program took place from 9:12 am to XNUMX:XNUMX pm and was attended by students and professors from the Physiotherapy and Nursing courses who provided care accompanying bathers with reduced mobility

On Saturday, the Women's Health Academic League (LASM) promoted an activity to guide women's health, such as care, before and after bathing, and correct cleaning of private parts.

The Academic League in Physiotherapy applied to Orthopedics and Sports (LAFORTE) was present on Sunday (24) offering guidance to caregivers on the transport of bathers in a wheelchair to reduce pain and tension and promoted an adapted volleyball, a playful activity with the bathers.

"Each week we have a different activity from the leagues and these complementary activities that enhance the project are done voluntarily within the proposal of what the leagues already do in the Bahiana”, explains the coordinator of the event and the Physiotherapy course at Bahiana, Prof. Luciana Bilitário.

According to Allana Luzo, a 7th semester student of the Physiotherapy course and president of LASM, ParaPraia is a promising project that allows academic leagues to develop their activities in favor of bathers. "We are going to distribute leaflets with guidance on women's intimate health care and we hope that bathers can enjoy bathing in the sea in a pleasurable way."

“It's a great opportunity for people with disabilities to be able to access the beaches of Salvador,” says the bather who has participated in the project since the first year of the project, Ione Paixão da Silva, 57, who has reduced mobility due to a thigh dislocation.

The student of the 2nd semester of the Nursing course, Luiza Omena, 18, explains that the project is essential for the course, as it deals with caring for others. "Nursing is the art of care and it is present today, on the beach, sharing the happiness of those people who have some kind of disability and, being able to bathe in the sea, is a unique opportunity that you don't have every weekend" .

“I've been participating in ParaPraia since my first year and I love the professionals' attention and all the activities they develop”, says Marisa Leão, 45, who has myelomeningocele (congenital malformation of the spine).

According to the coordinator of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies at Bahiana, Prof. Maria de Lourdes Freitas, the Bahiana reaffirms its commitment and social responsibility by promoting projects such as ParaPraia, enabling students and teachers to have a different experience in life. "We managed to do a job in a calm way, putting ourselves in the other's shoes, raising issues such as empathy, teamwork and encompassing several courses with teachers directly participating in the entire process, facilitating this dialogue between the student and the bathers" , ends.
