Last Friday, November 11th, the Psychology course of Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública received a visit from a group of 30 American students, who came to Brazil through the international study program Semester at Sea and, on the occasion, they got to know the Academic Unit Brotas. They were accompanied by Prof. Peg Barratt, of Social Psychology, from George Washington University.

This action had the direct support of a new nucleus of Bahiana, REAII-Institutional Academic Relations and Internationalization, coordinated by Prof. Antonieta Araújo. Its main objective is to build a transcultural space, where it is possible to share experiences from different cultures, whether through an academic meeting agenda, or establishing exchange agreements with other universities or favoring international visits and missions.

During the program, the visitors were welcomed by Prof. Antonieta and the pedagogical supervisor of the Psychology course, Prof. Ligia Vilas Boas, when they toured the institution's facilities. After the visit, the students went to the cafeteria, experiencing a little university culture and experiencing the Bahian spice.

In the afternoon, a chat was held on Social Psychology with the coordinator of the Psychology course at Bahiana, Prof. Sylvia Barreto, and with Prof. Marilda Castelar, being also present Prof. Luiza Ribeiro and students from different semesters of the Psychology course.

The profile of the course, practices and ways of studying the life cycles and extension activities developed with the community were presented. There were important exchanges about the different trends in Social Psychology actions in Latin America and North America and many questions were asked by the student segments.

The SemesteratSea program promotes exchange and study trips with students from various universities in the United States. The MV Explorer ship has a capacity for 700 students and a teaching staff of 120 professors. The student body and faculty are drawn from different US universities and classes take place in regular classrooms on the ship, and these visits are considered field classes. Brazil was the sixth country where they arrived and should reach their final destination in January.
