This was the verse declaimed by, Paulo Levita, cousin of Prof. Dr. Rosa Garcia, honored by Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, on the night of Wednesday, November 11, at the Academic Unit Brotas.

The program brought together professors, students, psychiatrists, psychologists and psychoanalysts to reward the services provided by the teacher, a former student of the Bahiana and retired professor of psychiatry at the Federal University of Bahia and Bahiana.

In addition to the honoree, they composed the opening table Prof. Dr. Roberto Badaró, represented by the Health Department of the State of Bahia, Dr. Jorge Cerqueira, represented by the Regional Council of Medicine of the State of Bahia (CREMEB), Prof. Dr. Milena Pondé, representing the Bahiana and Prof. Dr. Dorgival Caetano who, at the time, gave the lecture “Psychopathic personality: neuropsychology and neuroimaging findings”.

“Professor Rosa Garcia is one of the people who consolidated psychiatry in Bahia, a professor at the two most renowned schools of medicine in the state (Federal and Bahiana), therefore, the entire psychiatrist generation from the 1970s onwards gained its influence. In this way, I think a tribute that does justice to one of the most important people in psychiatry in Bahia and Brazil is very fair”, reports Prof. Dr. Roberto Badaró.

According to Prof. Dr. Dorgival Caetano, the invitation to give his lecture was very important, together with the tribute to Prof. Rosa Garcia, who is a colleague and leading professional in Brazilian psychiatry. “The last time I came to Salvador, it was about 10 years ago, as I have lived in Australia for about nine years, so it was time to see friends, companions from Salvador and present a little of our experience and our research, integrating this presentation, a more scientific part, with this deserved tribute to Rosa”, he explains.

Prof. Dr. Rosa Garcia expressed the emotion of receiving the honor and explained that the donation of the collection to the Bahiana is composed of rare books that tell practically the entire history of psychiatry with famous authors from all countries.

“I'm super moved by so much reverence., Look, I made this collection available to the Bahiana and half of that library was donated by a professor of psychiatry I had. He had one of the best collections in Bahia and, when he died, he left a letter saying that the library would stay with me, so I completed it with my books and thought I should donate it to Bahiana"He explains.

“Professor Rosa Garcia is one of the main psychiatrists in Brazil, she was a student at Bahiana and, later, a professor and, when he retired, he made a wonderful donation of a collection of classic books. The least we could do is to honor her and honor her for this competence and for her contribution to our institution, in the area of psychiatry”, declared Prof. Dr Milena Pondé.

His daughter, Prof. Dr. Manuela Garcia Lima, was moved by the tribute. “I feel flattered by everything they said about my mother, and at times I felt like crying. It was a very special day for me as if I were the one being honored, and I am”.

At the end of the ceremony, there was a musical presentation by the members of Bossa From Bahia, Paulo Levita (Dr. Rosa's cousin) and Palmira Imbassaí.
