Last Monday, November 9, on Floor A of Wing B of Teatro Castro Alves, it was promoted by the Candeal Program, Interprofessional Practice in Health at Escola Bahiana de Medicina e Saúde Pública, the last meeting this semester, with the group of children from the Neojibá Experimental Pedagogical Orchestra (OPE). During the semester, about seven meetings were held with various recreational health education activities focused on health promotion.

In this last meeting, the issue of sustainability was addressed, encompassing the responsibilities of each one in saving water, reusing packaging used in everyday life such as the pet bottle, tetra pak packaging, among other recyclable products. Throughout the program, the children divided into groups and, through creativity, used the materials to create toys and elements of their imagination, with subsequent presentation of their productions to their peers.

According to the physiotherapist and coordinator of the Candeal Program Bahiana, Lavínia Boaventura, the importance of this continued action is directly focused on the social responsibility of both the institution and the program's students and beneficiaries, encompassing ways of thinking about health with a broader focus.

“This week, we gathered several materials used in our homes and brought them to talk a little with the children about sustainability, also taking the opportunity to learn how they perceive the theme. We always try to bring up the issue of creativity linked to the proposed experiences”, he says.

“The Candeal Program is very interesting for us, students, who participate closely and can see, in practice, the application of many things we see in theory. Working with groups of children is cool because the boys end up showing us the learning they acquire from the lessons we bring to them and the return of this learning is very gratifying”, explains Pedro Henrique, 2nd semester student of the Medicine course gives Bahiana.

OPE student Luan Wesley, 11, says that the programs help a lot in his daily life, as they allow him an occupation, avoiding ostracism in the streets. “It's very productive because I avoid being on the street, often wasting time, and here, on the project, I learn a lot of cool things”, he explains.

“For the boys, the program is extremely important because it works with several families, from very different realities, and the approaches to the meetings are subjects that we don't have time to talk about due to Neojibá's rehearsals. These are very pertinent subjects, such as oral hygiene, nutritional health, and the program did an excellent job with the mothers, which had a very positive return”, concludes Ana Florência, coordinator of OPE.

“I've been participating in the project for a year and I think it's excellent. I have a schedule incompatibility with my family, as I live near the airport, but it's worth it because the project is very nice with very playful and fun activities”, says Vinicius Viera Cunha, 10, a member of OPE.

Student Milena Correia Martins, from the 4th semester of the Physiotherapy course at Bahiana, reports that the Candeal Program shows, in practice, what it is to promote health in an interdisciplinary/interprofessional way.

“Working with students from other health areas, different from yours, is an interdisciplinary approach, it is not just a multi-disciplinary approach, because knowledge passes from one to the other and is not restricted to one area. We ended up sharing knowledge and, thus, we can become interconnected professionals with multiple knowledge”, he concludes.
